Been going to the Sofitel for over 10 years now. The location is great, and the hotel has a nice lobby, decent amenities which I've used a few times (i.e., Gym). However as far as the room goes, it needs an update. Soundproofing between rooms is an issue if you have noisy neighbors. I had a "Hollywood sign facing" rooms which are usually quieter, however I could still hear every noise coming from outside at night as if my patio door was open even though it was quiet. Bed isn't nearly as comfortable as it used to be, shower/toilet could definitely use an update. The overall cleanliness is still pretty good though, housekeeping does a great job everyday. My main issue is the hotel lack of enforcement with the no smoking in room policy. I had booked 2 rooms for my family. In my room, a strong marijuana smell was present upon checking-in which I immediately reported to the front desk but judging from the reaction of the staff, I was making a fuss about nothing? I was then switched to a new room but on a different floor which created a lot of inconvenience for me, back/forth between the levels whenever I wanted to check-in on my parents. Later during my stay, I noticed the rooms next to me were also definitely smoking marijuana, so it seems like this is the “new normal” at the Sofitel, very disappointing. I encountered a similar issue back when I stayed there in 2017 which I thought was an exception but it doesn’t appear so. Nex time in LA, it won't be at the Sofitel.
