"What a gorgeous place. Very quiet with lovely grounds for walking. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Room was at the top of the castle and was very spacious. Food was delicious and even had room service one evening. Would recommend this break."

Staff brought in a pullout instead (which was not comfortable and not sufficient for us), at which point we dropped off our bags and went into the city. Upon returning at 7pm we found that we had no blankets for the pullout anywhere, 4 of the 6 ceiling lights were burnt out and we could hardly get light, and there were no staff there for the rest of the night"

If you book through a third-party site like Expedia, you’ll find yourself filling out a massive form from scratch after hauling two massive suitcases up 800 steps, completely out of breath. then another surprise: tourism tax. Expedia usually charges that in advance for many cities but not Edinburg, I think. There was no clear instructions of how to calculate it. They ask, you pay. "We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights toward the end of our trip to Scotland. The hotel is housed in an older building, but the bathrooms have been nicely updated. Overall, we found our room comfortable, although with the colder weather, it was somewhat difficult to maintain a comfortable temperature. One important consideration is that the hotel does not have an elevator, so be prepared to carry your luggage up several flights of stairs, depending on your room's location. "Staff was very helpful, and the hotel is near may restaurants and bars, it's also very near the city center. Room was smaller than we expected, but very comfortable and clean nonetheless."

"The hotel is on a flat part of Grassmarket. The Saturday outdoor market is right across the street, as is the hop- hop-off bus and at least 6 pubs and some simple eateries. Victoria street is a 3 min. walk. I loved the location. The hotel is well maintained and you can get lots of towels or tea from the cleaning staff, who are always around. If you want the hotel pub or pool, you’d have to go to the sister Apex hotel. I liked the quietness of this one. Only problem is the corridors and rooms...
