The staff were all very nice , especially the restaurant staff. The hotel is charming...but in places looking a bit dated. "We had a very pleasant stay, the location is excellent—conveniently situated near Matsumoto Station and within easy walking distance of Matsumoto Castle, restaurants, and shopping areas. It made exploring the city incredibly easy. The breakfast was another highlight of our stay. There was a good variety of delicious The only minor downside was that the public bath tended to be quite crowded, especially during the evenings."

"We have stayed at à few Hoshinoya hotels in Japan & Taiwan but this is the worst one so far. The room is dark, outdated and to get from bed to bath with many steps makes it difficult at night when the lights are so dim. Only tap water is complimented in the room . The meditation onsen is so dark inside all you see is dark wall no day light the vibe makes me feel scary not relaxing. No compliments of milk or ice cream after bath only juices cans sharing outside of the bath house for both...
