"The room was big and comfortable. The air conditioning kept the room pleasant despite the unusually hot weather. Facilities in the room were good. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Close to the train station and centre of town."

"Hocus Pocus is a really fun, quirky themed place to stay. We were able to leave our bags prior to check in and the cleaning crew was super helpful with that. We really liked the central location with shopping and food around The Shambles. Room was clean and the fan was helpful when it felt a little stuffy. Overall, we had a great one night stay."

"Star deducted for lack of parking. Although claiming to have parking, there are only a very small number of spaces available and they have to be pre booked. This should be clear when booking but it wasn’t. Hotel itself was lovely, clean stylish and well equipped rooms. Breakfast was lovely, hot food is made to order, not a buffet."

"The clean and spacious parking, secure and included in the price, is a major plus point. The full English buffet breakfast is really excellent. Even at the end of the breakfast window, nothing is dry or overcooked, including the eggs. All members of staff were welcoming and helpful. The lounge has a lovely view of the river. "Clean room. Parking is a plus point in busy city of York."

"Was disappointed to find that there was no available gym in the hotel, even though it is advertised as such. The sofa bed in the room was broken, as was the air-conditioning. Staff attempted to fix it but didn’t make a difference. When we visited, there was a pile of mattresses sitting in the lobby. Surely there’s a better way to manage this. We shared our complaints with staff at the hotel but they showed little interest so I hope management will take note "

"Highlights: helpful, friendly staff and lovely breakfast. Effective ac unit in room Low points: room (#55) was in desperate need of renovation. Only the ac unit in the bedroom worked .. the one in the lounge area (where our kids slept) didn't work. Gym was very small."

"Lovely hotel and the rooms were beautiful. The staff were very helpful at all times . We didn’t eat there but it all looked amazing. The only thing I would say it could do with a small fridge in the room to keep drinks cold . As we went during a heatwave and it was very hot in the room ."

"Great hotel, and next to the river. We stayed in the loft suit with two teenagers. Lovely large 2 storey room, with balconys and good views. Really enjoyed our stay and will hopefully return again. Only negative is the limited choice of breakfast, the coffee machine was broken most of the time, but you could get a drink from reception and we are not a fan of just croissants. "
