  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. Amazing place to stay!

I had a great time staying at molenmeers! Sofie is such an amazingly welcoming host, the building is so beautiful and cozy on the inside, and the hotel is very central!

Lovely stay

We had a lovely stay, the house is gorgeous and spacious with some beautiful common areas. The host, Sofie, was wonderful, extremely friendly and helpful with all our tourist questions. We stayed over Easter and had some Easter chocolates left in the room which was such a nice touch.

Our guest house was to our surprise very large, great for our 7 day stay. Sofie our contact person at the guest house was very good and informative of the Bruge area and added alot of special touches to our Boutique quest house experience. We enjoyed our stay and would definitiely stay again.

My wife and I loved our stay at Molenmeers Boutique Guesthouses. Sofie was an incredibly gracious host and gave wonderful suggestions to make our trip special. The bed and breakfast is beautiful with stunning rooms and a cozy library overlooking the canal. For anyone planning on traveling to Bruges, we could not recommend these guesthouses highly enough. The next time we visit Bruges we will make sure we can stay here again!

We had a lovely stay at the Molenmeers Boutique Guesthouse. The hotel was really nice and situated right in the center of the historic Bruges. The service was excellent and we recommend to have a romantic breakfast in the beautiful breakfast room with canal views.

What a wonderful place to stay! In great walking distance from the bustling centre of Bruges but in the old town so a lovely and quiet base to return to after a busy day of shopping and indulging. Sofie was an amazing host, offering the best recommendations and very attentive in making sure we had everything we needed and that our stay was really special. We stayed in the tower suite and it was incredible - really quirky, clean and felt like a little bit of luxury. The whole guesthouse is so charming and well decorated. Not your average place to stay. Highly recommend. Huge thank you to Sofie for a lovely stay.

Great location and on the canal.Comfortable beds, very clean and lots of space to hangout. if you want to take a nap or read a book it’s possible here. Sophia is the house manager. She is very kind and cares about her patrons. She is helpful in planning your day by making your reservations too giving suggestions on historical sites to see. Her suggestions on what to do in Brugge were the best. Sophia made our 3 day stay 10 times better . We would love to come back again in the future.

Perfect stay in Bruges

First of all, our hostess Dorine was absolutely fantastic. She was so warm and gracious and helped us in so many ways. Thank you, Dorine! The location could not have been better. It was in a quiet residential area and no more than a 10 minute walk from the heart of Bruges. The property was gorgeous and our suite was perfect - spacious, immaculate, comfortable bed, huge bathroom - everything was amazing. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. Highly, highly recommend!!!!!

Long weekend stay

We had a lovely long weekend at Molenmeers. Sofie was very welcoming and had lots of recommendations for restaurants, bars, and things to do. The room was gorgeous and we had access to the library that overlooked the canal. Could not fault the experience.

My family rented 3 rooms in this guest house and it was great. We were able to walk everywhere from it. But, it was nice to hang out in. We had drinks on the terrace, sat in the dinning room at a window that opened onto the canal, and had nightcaps in the library. The woman who was running it was friendly and helpful. I would recommend staying here if you are going to Brugge.
