We’re were upgraded to the suite which was lovely at first. Perhaps staffing wasn’t at full capacity. That being said our room was filthy. Garbage bag dripped throughout the suite and was never cleaned up. Toilet was dirty. Air and heat unit not working properly and it was very warm and stuffy. The only housekeeping was done was fluffing the pillows. We were ready to leave.

We were in a great location. Walking distance to shops, restaurants, and museums. Staff friendly, happy hour was fine. We didn’t mind our room was on the 3rd floor because we had a great view. Our only issue was the hot water in the shower did not operate well.

My friend and I stayed here for 2 nights. Our reason for staying was to visit the tulips at Keukenhof. The property is welcoming from the outside and the staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The property is having work done but only to improve it and we weren’t disrupted by it. The room we stayed in was on the 3rd floor and there is no lift but the view of the canal was lovely. Our room was clean but a bit knocked around. Various damage to furniture and the wallpaper was coming off which had been temporarily repaired with sellotape. The bedside shelf had clearly been ripped off at some point and where it was had been temporarily repaired with a piece of paper. Our shower only seemed to run very hot and the “rain” effect head was clogged with limescale so it shot out all over the place. The bathroom door/wall was all glass, the main door was frosted but the glass either side was frosted and clear so you could still see in. I would stay here again as it was in a great location, staff were super friendly.

Unfortunately we had to cut our stay here short due to finding and being bitten by bed bugs. The staff were incredibly helpful and professional, offering a refund as they had no other rooms available to swap us to. The location was great and the room itself was nice. Although, the glass bathroom doors do not offer any real privacy, so might not be for everyone.

This was an excellent location. Close to the tram system but quiet and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed the drinks served in the afternoon. The bed was very comfortable and the, shower was great. Only concern was the steps as I struggle but they placed me on the first floor but a spiral staircase was difficult for me. Would definitely recommend and would stay again. Thanks 😊

It had the old european charm. I like that wee placed on the top floor - but the only downside is not having the lift! Be prepared to climb the stairs!!! :)

Loved the layout and decor of the room and the hotel facilities. Very pleasant staff and relaxed atmosphere throughout our stay. Nicely located just outside of the main town, great transport links but also within walking distance of all activities. Had a great stay and would definitely see us giving the hotel a second try next time we visit Amsterdam. **Our only thumbs down 👎 is something outside of the hotel’s control and that is the noise from other guests. We were disturbed each night by the noise from the adjoining rooms and in particular our final night. Whilst appreciating other people have different views on what is being considerate making a series of phone calls (on speaker phone) between 1 and 2 am I would say there lacks some manners from some people and very little consideration that the majority of other guests may well be trying to sleep. Maybe some signage in communal areas / on inside / outside of hotel doors reminding guests to bear in mind other people may be nearby would be of benefit.** Apart from the above I would recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam.

Incredibly good location, close enough to town but far enough away from the chaos. Only criticism is that the stairs are narrow and steep - meaning you feel every kg in your suitcase. Worth it though. The happy hour downstairs everyday was a great extra touch and a good way to wind down. Id recommend this hotel to anyone going to Amsterdam

Very well located. Staff were lovely, spacious room with a good bathroom. Glad we chose the bed and breakfast option, continental breakfast and also a member of staff available to cook breakfast eggs and bacon. We would stay here again, convenient for walking to all the major tourist pit stops.

BAD BED BUG PROBLEM! It ruined our stay in Amsterdam. We are an older couple who flew internationally for a 4 day trip to celebrate our anniversary. We were severely bitten by bed bugs from head to toe. We told the staff about our bites and they said there was no evidence it was from the hotel. They made us feel like liars. We requested a room change and were denied. The next morning we woke up and found bugs on the bed sheets (see video). After the staff saw it for themselves they had to agree that there was a bed bug issue. Our bites were so extensive that we could not do any more activities during our stay. Excite Hotels (managing Amsterdam Canal Hotel), refused to cover our vacation expenses such as missed day trips, ticket expenses, luggage, dry cleaning, cloths or the intense pain and suffering. They said your travel insurance (we did not have any) should cover other expenses and only our room cost was refunded. This room was in the building where the café is. Other reviews for this hotel complain of bed bugs so this is not a one-time issue. Other room issues: towels in bathroom not changed, shower drainage problem, excessive heat in room and faulty TV.

We arrived and all was fine at the hotel. We then went to bed at around midnight when the ceiling started to leak and continually pour from the ceiling into the bath. It was coming from an air vent. We informed the night man who at first told us there was nothing he could do. Meanwhile, guests above were screaming, banging and generally being extremely loud. The night man then returned and told us we could move rooms. We were happy with this as it was now 1am and had a long day of travel so sleep was needed. Whilst we were in our new room, the night man then proceeded to empty the bins, understandable, however then began to whack the bin and rubbish with a metal spade. We discovered that our window was a struggle to shut whilst we were seeing what the loud noise was so early into the morning. The next morning, we went to the reception and was greeted by two two friendly ladies who were apologetic about the nights events. One of the ladies said we were able to stay in our room. We then were met with an extremely rude lady, named Raquel, who was not understanding an evening situation. The other receptionists were trying to tell her. She was rude to them and told us we had to go back to our previous room that was leaking and unsafe. We said we would not be doing this. She continued to roll her eyes, huff and starting to say ‘go go’ ‘leave’ to which we found extremely rude and poor service. We were then on edge and made to feel unwelcome and uncomfortable in the hotel .

Terrific location and very clean. 2 hr (4-6 pm)free apps and drinks No elevator and spiral staircase was brutal bringing bags up. Breakfast buffet is limited and over-priced. For a short stay i would recommend for anyone without mobility issues.

It is an older building with a lot of history, the room was super cute with a view of the canal over the bed. The staff were super friendly and have lots of information about the area. Overall it was an enjoyable stay

A nice walk along the canals to get to the centre and close to the museum quarter. Lots of places to eat within 5 minute walk and far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist area that you do not get woken up by groups of red light district tourists at 3am. FYI, the stairs to the rooms are quite steep and spiralled so make sure to not take too large of a suitcase (size and weight).

For future guests it would be helpful if information regarding tramlines or metro line were provided to help futre guests to get to the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Canal Hotel, Amsterdam. The suite was fantastic. Staff very friendly, approachable and obliging nothing was to much trouble.

This was a cute boutique hotel where the staff was really nice. I also really liked the downstairs bar area where you can get wine for happy hour. I started all of my evenings off there.

There is no elevator and the spiral staircase is narrow, making it difficult to carry large luggage. Older people are also at greater risk. The amenities were clean and gave me a good impression.

The room was small but cute with a very nice bathroom. The staff and breakfast were wonderful and the bed was very comfortable. My only complaints are that the bed is against the only window so to open the window, you have pull the bed away from the window and there isn’t a headboard. Also, the room smelled like smoke even though it was a nonsmoking room.
