Adisucipto International Airport is the principal air gateway to the Yogyakarta region of Indonesia’s Java Island. It is mostly served by Southeast Asian regional airlines with services from other Indonesian airports as well as Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. The airport is around six kilometres from Yogyakarta’s city centre and eight from the 1,100-year-old Prambanan temple complex.Don’t Miss
Besides offering convenience for passengers arriving at or leaving from Adisucipto International Airport, the real draw of staying in this northeast region of Yogyakarta is its prime position between the city centre and Prambanan. The temple complex is UNESCO World Heritage listed and is the biggest Hindu religious site in the country.
The centrepiece of Prambanan is a huge 47-metre-high cone-shaped temple. On the west side of the temple grounds, and on the opposite bank of the River Opak, a stage is set up every full moon to allow Ramayana ballet dancers to perform traditional Javanese routines. The Prambanan region has been designated as a national park which also encloses the temples of Bubrah and Lumbung.
Other notable attractions near Adisucipto International Airport include the Dirgantara and Affandi museums and Sambisari Temple. Plaza Ambarrukmo is a premium shopping hotspot nearby, while the 18 holes at Adisucipto Golf Course give fans of the sport a decent game.Restaurants and Bars
Jalan Solo is the main road running past the front of the airport. There are a few Indonesian style cafés and roadside stalls that serve bakso malang meatballs and noodles, iced coffee and Bintang beer. In the airport itself there is a restaurant and a KFC outlet. Plaza Ambarrukmo has a more varied choice of dining options with everything from Dunkin’ Donuts to Thai food on offer.Shopping
Plaza Ambarrukmo is halfway into town and home to a massive collection of shops with the likes of Wacoal, Lee Cooper, Oppo mobile telephones and Buccheri among quality brands. Shops at Adisucipto International Airport sell books, magazines, snacks, electrical gadgets and accessories. Souvenirs such as batik cloth, puppets and small pictures are also sold on site.
