We stayed in the large room one out of two nights. Staff were excellent and breakfast was generous. Handy location with immediate access to restaurants or shops. Note it is on-street parking if you can get it but you are given a permit to show. Only point we did not enjoy was the bed was very uncomfortable, I think the mattress might need replacing. Water pressure is low but that may be a town issue. You need to consider the narrow stairs etc if you have trouble with heavy luggage or mobility but that wasn't a problem for us.
My wife and I recently stayed for a one night short break and can say if small, personal family service is what you like, you won't go wrong here. We were welcomed in the lounge by Caroline who, after a little form filling, showed us around our room (Bowness) . The room was very comfortable and quiet and well equipped, although the tv receiver wouldn't get ITV1 whilst we're dressing for evening dinner. Not a problem for us however as we were only trying to catch up on news. We booked evening dinner and chose the 3 course. A fantastic decision, with excellently cooked portions. Personal service from Jonathan and the staff was excellent throughout with just the right amount of time between courses. The atmosphere was relaxed as we shared the dining room with 5 other couples, each of which received equally attentive service. Although we only stayed one night we both left wishing it had been longer. If you want somewhere that is small, personal and excellent value then Cedar Manor is a little gem.
( Can we also congratulate Caroline on recently raising over £3000 for Lupus charity by running the Great North Run. My wife has Lupus so well done Caroline on behalf of sufferers everywhere)

We first stayed here in 1989 and stayed numerous times in the 1990's, in 2001, 2002 and the last time in 2004. It had lost it's edge a little for us in the transition from a privately run and owned hotel to part of a chain (Von Essen). Recent developments, a new owner, and good reviews tempted us back and we were not disappointed! It isn't the same as in the days of Francis and Brian - it never could be - but it is still a unique experience. The position on Ullswater couldn't be better (I'd go for the views alone!), the staff were helpful and friendly, the food was exceptional without following fashion. Sharrow Bay always did things it's own way and that was what made it special. The décor and furnishings suit the house and location superbly and I'm pleased to see the Hotel still dares to be different in that respect. We won't leave it as long before our next visit. It is still Simply the Best!

Location great. Host could not have been more helpful. Room on the small side, but so was the price for the room so no complaints there. Room clean.
A word of warning on Windemere hotels in general however. Their star rating system is not the same as elsewhere, so 4 stars in Windermere is the same as 2 stars elsewhere.

Great location and very friendly and accommodating staff. Excellent breakfast. Beds are big and rooms spacious. Toiletries are adequate - I'd recommend bringing your own from home! All in all a lovely place to stay while in the Lakes.

Took my wife for our 35th wedding anniversary, upon arrival we were greeted with tea, coffee & biscuits, local restaurants were recommended and Denise the owner made a reservation for us that evening. Our room had a four poster bed and each day had fresh clean towels and his and hers dressing gowns laid out. The breakfast menu catered for all tastes including vegetarian and was all home cooked. I would definately give it a 5 star rating and look forward to staying there again.
