"Where do I start… check in-no one took a deposit so had trouble with having to pay for everything as I couldn't bill room until I finally sorted it at the front desk. Room key didn’t work second day because my reservation of adding a night seemed to confuse staff so had to be at the front desk every morning until that was sorted. Room restock was HORRIBLE. Had to call every night of a 4 night stay because staff had not refreshed at least 1-5things such ascoffee, tissue, sugar, water, spoon, coffee cups. They didn’t clean room, wipe fixtures, or vacuum. Bed was made by throwing up the duvet and haphazardly throwing the pillows on the bed. Had a young woman masseuse who thought she was a medical doctor and I had to tell her 4 times to stop working on my back in a sensitive area and she told me “but you are tight all over” so we work where it’s needed!!!!!!! Excuse me I have been in this body for 60 years and I know it better than you little girl!!!! Room was noisy as it was right next to the utility closet where the staff made a huge ruckus getting the vacuums out at 7:30am every morning. Fire alarm went off randomly one morning at 8am-no communication, information. Nothing. I ignored it as the service was so subpar I figure it was a false alarm..and it was but it went on for 20 minutes. You get complimentary items first night but then couldn’t get them again even though I offered to pay for them to get them. Got impression all staff just did the BARE minimum"

"Beautiful building, but inside the hotel rooms could do with bringing it up to our century. The tv is so far away from the bed, you can order room service , by using the QR code, but once you’ve checked the menu out, you then have to ring a telephone number to place your order, there is also a charge of £5 per tray . Breakfast plenty to choose from, but the hot food was not hot it was cold Wouldn’t stay there again ."

"On arrival greeted by reception as if they’d been having a bad day and letting it show. Hotel is pleasant enough but I don’t expect luxury what I do expect a comfortable bed. My expectations were not met here. Easily the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. Mattress must have been 20 years old. I resorted to pulling out the sofa bed at 2am it was that bad. Better but not a great alternative. Maybe I got unlucky. "

"1. Hotels.com description for a Superior Room is 31 sq m, with a seating area with a sofa and chairs. Ours (room 275) was tiny, with room for a desk and a chair in the corner. Yet, Front Desk assured us this was a Superior Room. 2. Getting hot water out of the shower is non-trivial. Initially we had to complain to get the boiler restarted, then we had to ask for someone to come to the room to explain how to operate the shower tap (involved aligning the lever at a particular angle combined with pushing and turning the temperature knob). Instructions in the bathroom would be helpful. 3. No hairdryer in the room, had to call and request. When the attendant arrived, he asked to check our wardrobe as if he didn't believe us. 4. Breakfast, if ordered on Hotels.com at time of booking, seems to be £20 per room. If ordered in person on the morning, it's more than twice the price, £22 per person. So plan accordingly! 5. Lots of stairs. Our room was only accessible via stairs, which can be tiring depending on how much luggage you have. 6. The grounds are fairly nice. The peacocks are striking, through depending on their mood (and, presumably, the season), they do get into shouting matches with each other which can make for a less-than-tranquil experience on the lawns. Thankfully most rooms are well-insulated and the noise is a lot softer. The lawns therefore are fertilized with healthy amounts of peacock droppings. And occasionally some of the tabletops in the lawn area, too."
