Tired, old property. I had a queen room with en-suite. Noisy hallways.

The team at Wild Zebra Backpackers did not know what Wotif was and where confused by my booking and payment.
Other than that, the room I had was clean and it was a great location.

Expensive backpackers
Quite expensive for just a backpackers. Got a private room, but shared showers. Close walking distance to concert venue and situated right in town, so I guess paying for location.
Good location, walking distance to town. Only downside is there is no free parking.

Decent enough, if you don't have high standards
Quite run down, but adequate and convenient. Fulfills basic needs, is in a central location and was fairly priced. A bit noisy, both inside and from the major streets just outside.
I didn't have any issues, but after I checked out I heard some people having issues with their booking - they had a booking confirmation, paid for and all, but there was no available room for them.. not sure who they had booked it through, just that it wasn't Hotels.com anyways.
The place is said ..it is not an ensuite... an ensuite has everything including towels and soap and a proper shower.. the place is noisy as hell ... did not sleep.... at all never again

I didn’t like that fact that there were often queues at reception. At a backpackers you get a lot of foreigners who are travelling which means they need to catch taxis, planes etc it is unacceptable that customers are made to wait 20-40 minutes for someone to return back to the counter. It is bad service especially for those that are coming to visit our country for the first time. Also there is a hidden fee of $10 for the room key. This information needs to be stated on the website when first booking the room.

Okay accommodation to use as a bed for the night as it is cheap but no bells and whistles

Not my usual style for business, but with any regular hotel room costing over $1,400 for two midweek nights this was it. Reception staff were friendly (and multilingual), but took a while to get the keys sorted.
Pretty run down (not going to invest much in an area of buildings that have generally failed earthquake standards), but bed was comfy and seemed secure enough.
White noise from the aircon in the roof above level 5 (room 512, ensuite queen) was actually a plus - slept really well. Location is very close to Courtney Place and Cuba Quarter for food and drinks, but I wasn't disturbed by noise at night at all. Also no roadworks/building nearby at the moment, which is a problem from 6am for a lot of other parts of Wellington at present.
On entry, the staff were less than helpful. If u have a car, do not stay here, there is absolutely no parking or $4 an hour on the street! They do have 2 lifts but only one worked. The room was tidy but not heated, stained throughout. The kitchen facilities were grotty and infectious!
A little noisy but that is what you get in the central city. Comfortable bed, simple room.

Close to bus stops, bars and Tepapa.
Only stayed for one night but we were able to leave our gear in the holding bay. They had no lockers mind you, and we didn't want to be carting around our gear through town anyway. Did not like the fact that the toilets were not visibly signed for ladies. I spent ages looking for them! I also freaked out to see showers and toilets and sink in the hall way! That was new to me. However, showers were decent and somewhat clean. Room was comfortable and clean too. Loved the fact that it was close to Cuba street and Tepapa!
My ensuite room was between the laundry and bathrooms. I had to walk past a row of basins and showers to get to it. Someone slept on a couch in the hallway all night. People’s crap was lying around in the hallways. The room was dingy. The heater didn’t work. It was noisy because of the showers and laundry all around it. There was no towel... I had to pay $2 at the desk for one. Also had to go to the nearest eftpos machine down the street for cash bond to get my swipe card for my room. Which put me back to the back of the line if people checking in. The price for my room at reception and on Expedia was $89. I had paid the wotif price of $116. A complete ripoff. It offered no refunds or changes to dates.
I made a midweek booking for my own dble room. Needed nearby parking and quick access to ferries.
It was a good size, despite having a set of bunks in it too. The side tables were dirty and had someone else's long hair all over them. Luckily I could clean them with makeup wipes. There was no bedside light or switch.
Noisy! Despite signs saying keep the noise down, there'd be people yapping in the open communal area opposite my room till all hours, and stomping up and down the uncarpeted hallway. I finally fell asleep after 4am after the last person went to bed. I needed to get up at 6 am for the ferry.
Also, signs saying no dishes or cups outside the kitchen, yet they were left dirty, along with various personal belongings, in this communal area. I suspect the worst offenders were longterm guests/residents.
The women's loos had no handsoap and just a towel on a hook, which I later found on the floor.
Insufficient guest fridges and they were jam packed - open the doors and items fell out. Freezers had items in blocks of ice. Despite the usual signage, clearly fridges etc weren't regularly cleaned out.
Overall, noisy, dirty, unkempt. Disappointing.
Get what you pay for. Expect no sleep. People were yelling at 3 am next door to my room that lasted about a half-hour. Walls are thin. Couldn't find the guy at reception for 15 minutes when I tried to check out & get my key deposit back. Not much room in 4 person dorms for everyone & their stuff.
