Located within a few hours drive from Las Vegas is this horseshoe shaped meander of the Colorado River. After a bit of a hike, we got to see the horseshoe bend. What an astounding beauty it was! Also extremely nerve-wracking because it is a merciless 1000 feet drop from the canyon cliffs, and there are no rails at the edge of the cliffs. Being acrophobic made it worse! But it is an experience of a lifetime and I’m glad I mustered all of my courage (I have very little of it), prayed all the Gods in the world (although I believe there is only God) and peeked at the formation of the horseshoe bend among the deep gorges. To get an elaborate view of the horseshoe bend, I lay down on my stomach and literally crawled on the canyon to reach the edges. The only thing I hoped is, the cliffs were strong enough to hold my weight. And here I was, literally at the edge of a 1000 feet high cliff with my palms sweating (literally!).

Tuskegee University, one of the largest historically black universities in the United States, is a private university located in Tuskegee, Alabama. It was founded by Lewis Adams, a former slave, and George W. Campbell, a former slave owner. Adams asked that an educational institution for blacks be established. After Foster won the election, $2,000 (per year) was allocated from the state general budget for such a school to be located in Macon County. It was officially founded on July 4th, 1881, with Booker T. Washington, then a 25-year-old teacher at Hampton Institute in Virginia, as its first principal, a position he maintained until his death in 1915. Tuskegee acquired university status in 1985. Today it offers undergraduate, masters, professional, and doctoral degrees to more than 3,000 students with a strong orientation toward the relationship between education and work force preparation in the sciences, professions and technical areas. It was the first black college to be designated as a Registered National Historic Landmark
