I was very disappointed with the overall cleanliness and condition of this hotel. The front of the property was extremely dirty, with rubbish scattered around, giving a very poor first impression upon arrival. The outdoor swimming pool was out of service and filled with green, dirty water, which was both unappealing and concerning. The garden area was also poorly maintained, with broken furniture left lying around, adding to the neglected atmosphere. Inside the hotel, the heating was turned off despite the temperature being only 12°C. When we asked reception about this, we were told it was due to it being “summer,” which felt unreasonable given how cold it actually was. Our room itself had several issues. The curtains were partially falling off their fittings, and the bathroom had a constant sewage smell, making it very unpleasant to use. Additionally, many of the pictures shown on the website do not reflect the current state of the property. The hotel appears quite misleading in its presentation online compared to the reality. Overall, this stay did not meet expectations, and significant improvements are needed in cleanliness, maintenance, and honesty in advertising.

We stayed for 2 nights, staff were very helpful, carried our bags up to our room. Room was very clean though on the small side with no chairs, so could only sit on the bed.

The location was great only a short walk to the beach.Our room was the Devon suite and was spacious and very welcoming with a great view of the sea and outside pool. All of the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble the food was lovely and very reasonably priced. In this current climate of the virus the implementation of the Covid guidelines made us feel very safe and stress free, altogether a lovely few days away so thank you to all the staff at the Crofton House Hotel.......

It’s a lovely building and has lovely rooms. However there was no hot water, the shower didn’t work , broken plug in bathroom sink. Couldn’t complain as there was no staff for most of the day Continental breakfast was very very limited with no fresh milk or any juices. We were the only people staying there. Never again

Cheap, broken, not fit for purpose

Booked for 4 nights, stayed for 2. Staff were scarcely available, lots of broken parts in our room that didnt get fixed or looked at despite us raising with the manager. Radiators that deapite being switched off, kept heating overnight and keeping the room at 30°c. Cold swimming pool and jacuzzi. Overall very disappointed - thought it would be a nice budget hotel but left after 2nights. Would NOT recommend.

Really lovely staff. Evidently refurbishing the property which is needed. Comfy beds. Unfortunately there was an awful smell coming from our bathroom. In addition, the rooms smelts like mold and the bathroom was covered in mold in the shower seals. The steam room needs a good bleach as mold in it and smells awful.

This hotel is ok - it could be nice but it needs some sorting out. The boiler kept breaking down when we were there and although they moved us room to one with a bath (which did have hot water) it was annoying, they fixed in the evening of our stay but it has stopped again in the morning. We had a suite which was lovely but the double room our friends had was not. To be fair it was really cheap so can’t complain much but a working shower is pretty essential!!

The room was nothing like we booked. The pool and billiard rooms were terrible. Everything needs updating. The property is in bad condition. The pool has no chlorine or cleaning chemicals. The lady who greeted us was lovely but other than that, it was a very disappointing stay.

Hotel was very run down, squeaky floor boards which kept us awake from other people moving around and talking First room we were given was very grotty and smelly had to open all the windows and dusted with a tissue then asked for polish and a duster but they changed us to another room which was better Bed was very hard Quilt had stains on and pillow Staff were very friendly and food was nice Overall wouldn’t go back Our first choice of hotel was cancelled a week before our departure so had no choice to go to this one which we were transferred to I have no idea what the excellent facilities were meant to be There was no swimming pool or hot tub which the original hotel we booked had To top it all we got no refund although this hotel was cheaper to stay in than the one we booked so overpaid for it Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone The only positive we’re the staff were really nice

Entry to room is by four digit passcode on electronic pads which are loud so you’re woken up all night by noise of people in and out their rooms . Place is unmanned at night ( that’s the reason you can only check in between 3-9) so other guests behave as they want to. Playing loud music in the communal area , drunken couples having arguments . Place is shabby and obviously hasn’t had any money or love put into it for years . Nowhere to hang your clothes . Cheap thin duvets. Exposed live extension leads . Shower makes a terrible noise which must wake the other guests up . The room was very clean however . Potentially beautiful building and gardens but all uncared for and unkempt . Maybe ok for young people for a night out in Torquay but definitely not for business traveller or a someone who wants peaceful stay .

FAWLTY TOWERS RETURTNS!!!

We were a little suprised on our arrival as there was no one on the desk and the entrance to the hotel seemed dated and dismal,so all in all not a very welcoming arrival,it became apparent why there was no one on the desk as during our one night stay we never saw anyone again.The person on our arrival was very helpful and pleasent and showed us around the facilities. When we went down in the morning for our continental breakfast,there was very little there and we were prompt at 9 the time we were given,! the kettle was empty and there was a shortage on cutlery!other guests were also unhappy about the situation! We rang the number left at desk,but no one came,so i went hunting for the kitchen to fill the kettle and wash some cutlery, not someting you expect to have to do in a hotel!! there was literally no one around and i was very shocked at the condition of the kitchen!! Although our room was comfortable our stay at this hotel was very disappointing and would find it a very welcoming appology if the hotel re embursed our money as we dont feel we were looked after in any way as there was no staff to do so,needless to say,we wont be coming back!

The suite was spacious with ample storage for clothing however there was not enough towels in the room. We requested for more towels and extra pillows three times during our stay however this was not provided to us despite the staff promising to bring them to our room. The spa / swimming pool was poor, the jacuzzi didn’t work and the water in the swimming pool and jacuzzi was cold. The stream room was out of order and there was no lockers or towels in the spa area. Would not recommend if your intention is mainly to use the spa facilities.
