"We have stayed here before several times but this time was really disappointing. We booked an accessible room but on arrival we were told this wasn't available and we were on the first floor. It was fortunate my operation for a knee replacement was postponed or I wouldn't have managed the stairs (no lift). The first floor room was stifling as it was during the ongoing heatwave. No fan provided.
We went straight to get a cold drink (having driven 200 miles we were parched). Ordered the drinks...

"The rooms are well furnished but no aircon or appropriate cooling - so if you come in winter I’m sure it will be lovely. No signage as to where to go to check in, you have to wait for a member of the bar staff who are then not very helpful. Staff overall didn’t feel very welcoming. Food in the evening was over cooked and very dry but on the plus side the breakfast was delicious. We stayed one night and wouldn’t stay again."

"Lovely clean rooms set in a lovely hotel with beautiful surroundings. Carpark had plenty of space. The pub/restaurant was fantastic. One of the best steaks I’ve had.
I was impressed by the wine list as it had plenty of choice of fantastic wines.
Only downside was they stopped serving drinks at 10pm. Much too early to shut shop after you’ve been in the restaurant all evening.
Other than that, we were satisfied."

"Our room was excellent - recently decorated with good facilities - our only problem was with the shower (no instructions). We had an evening meal which was very well presented. No breakfast available but there are coffee shops and cafes in the village. The staff were very helpful.

"This was our first time staying at a hotel that wasn't staffed. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The accommodations were very modern. Plenty of hot water. Easy access to both train and bus stations. "My overall assessment on the stay would rate it no more than a three star. There are some minor maintenance issues that need to be looked into. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Food was very good and the full English was excellent. The idea of filling out what you wanted for breakfast the previous day was not really how I would like it as this might change, I would prefer to decide on the day. Conclusion: The accommodation was a little tired and in need of a spruce up."
