"A not so hidden gem with a rustic plantation ambiance. Lush surroundings, great parking, friendly staff, convenient to Volcano National Park. The 1/2 mile loop trail behind the property was a fun morning picker-upper to get the day started. It’s a little quirky that the guest check-in is in the gift shop, very laid back but service is wonderful. The restaurant is top notch and the portions are reasonable for the price. "I wanted a do nothing holiday. This was a brilliant choice, quiet, pool and lagoon was perfect, the local restraunts and cafe handy, just very insistant on reservations. With bicycle, scooter and car hire available getting out and about was easy. Wasnt prepared for the self catering option at the Retreat and the local stores provided options for dining in. Would stay again, just with better insect repellant. "

"Pros: This is our first time staying at a lodge like this, so close to nature, just like camping. You will hear coqui frog whole night & seeing them jumping next to your door step. Animals free roaming, peacocks, ducks, chicken. Kids loved it. Cons: There is barely any light at night in the Property…so if you come back late, it’s a bit challenging to find your cabin."
