I had shrimp tacos twice and got mostly fried tempura batter.. Mexican lunch menu does not have many choices. As well, a Few of the restaurant staff focus more on tips than good service.. The location is perfect for those that like to get out and explore! Walking distance to everything! The rooms were beautiful! Everything was clean and bigger than expected. The bathrooms were gorgeous. Staff were top notch! From all the servers, housekeepers and bartenders. Breakfast buffet was delicious. Nice variety. The rooftop area is stunning! The rooftop food was pretty good. The hot tubs were nice and clean. Plenty of chairs and seating. I read other reviews about how loud the bar was on the rooftop. I did not experience that I was right under it on the 4th level. You could hear it but not too loud and was never on too late. I read reviews about construction noise and that was also never an issue for us. The only thing I would change would be the pool. It was dirty. Not just like dirty from being on a rooftop (which I get) sides of the pool were slimy and had visible algae. The water was always murky. At one point a piece of fruit floated past me as I decided it was time to get out.

Second time staying here, really enjoy this place. The food and drinks are great, it is nice to not have plated meals rather than buffet. It seems like they reduced the menu a bit and less "premium" drinks are included since the last time I stayed here, that being said they are still very good. Staff is friendly, they let us check in early no charge, rooftop pool is awesome, with good music. Gym isn't the best and could probably use a refresh, but still enough to get a good pump on. Overall great stay!

For the price, the food was excellent. Spend the money for all inclusive packages. It is a very quiet hotel, it is really for couples and not a lot of activities on site. All say, it was a good stay.

​I can't praise the Reef 28 enough! Upon arrival Alejandro offered us a few incentives if we sat through a 90 minute 'timeshare' kinda sales pitch... 30 minute massage; 2 spa passes; access to 2 other Reef Resorts and free private transfer to the airport (we were flying out of Cancun). Agreed to go and it was WORTH IT! more about this later Expedia Gold Membership got us an upgrade to a corner suite - The suite is bigger than my apartment! Walked into a huge table with seating for 8; Kitchenette; Living Room with big screen TV; a full bathroom and balcony. Then we walked into our bedroom: another full bathroom; king size bed; jacuzzi tub; big screen TV; radio; safe; iron; hair dryer and another balcony (same balcony; it wraps around the entire suite - absolutely amazing!) Next morning; breakfast with Donaciano; Noemi and the rest of the crew - fantastic energy; easy going (absolutely lovely people). Fruits; breakfast parfaits; pastries; breads; western and traditional mexican dishes and the omelette station - Martha's is a freaking wizard of the grill; had one everyday

Property is clean. Staff is very nice and made the trip more pleasant. However, there is nothing to do at this hotel. The beach nearby is awful. I will definitely stay closer to Cancun next time and choose a resort with more activities and have a great beach. For me, this would be a good hotel for a one night stay but it’s too far from the airport to be that. So overall, not worth the money. Also, the sister properties aren’t any better.

The hotel itself is beautiful and really well kept. The room was clean and spacious, but we could hear music pretty much all day and night. If you’re sensitive to noise, this might not be the best spot. That said, the location is great - just a short walk to the beach and 5th Avenue. The check-in process was excruciating. We arrived after a 10-hour travel day and it took over an hour just to get our room key. There were 4 staff behind the counter, but only one was actually helping guests while the others seemed to be standing around. On top of that, they wouldn’t give us our room keys until we went through a concierge “tour” of the hotel, including the spa and restaurant. They also tried to sit us down to pitch extra packages, which wasn’t what we wanted after a long day of travel. That’s where we drew the line. Honestly, it was the worst check-in experience we’ve had.

I had a wonderful time staying at The Reef 28. Overall, I truly enjoyed myself and would rate the experience a 10/10. One of the best things about this hotel is the location—it’s perfect for anyone who wants the best of both worlds. You’re fully immersed in the energy of the area, just steps away from Fifth Avenue. Depending on your room, you can even see Fifth Avenue right from your balcony, which adds to the experience. That said, your room choice really matters. Some rooms face a wall, and the patios in those suites are extremely small—barely enough space for two people. On the other hand, there are rooms with beautiful ocean-view balconies, which make a huge difference in how much you enjoy your stay. So I’d definitely recommend being intentional about the room you book. One thing that did bother me was the experience upon entering the hotel. You’re immediately approached by people who don’t actually work for the hotel but are there to sell excursions and investment opportunities. The approach feels very pushy—they try to get you to sit through presentations and upsell you on new resort developments. What made this more frustrating is that when you visit one of their sister properties in Playa del Carmen, the quality doesn’t quite match the sales pitch. It felt underwhelming in terms of maintenance and offerings compared to newer luxury resorts. Because of that, the aggressive push to invest felt misplaced. This was especially noticeable when I had friends visit.

This entire trip was a 12/10. The pick up at the airport was divine. Santi, Ricardo, and Bernardo, Freddy were amazing and took such good care of us. A trip to remember. One of my complaints was the all-inclusive, wasnt really all inclusive. Food on menu was not all included and when we arrived there was beer and sodas in our room. This resort was amazing! The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. We ended up missing the shuttle to one of their sister properties and they called a taxi for us. The roof is beautiful and the public beach is right around the corner if you want to go there. Their sister properties have private beach access which is nice, I believe it is $15 USD for a day pass. The only thing I would say is they don’t have too many food options, but the location is right downtown so you can go off property for cheap but delicious eats. Would stay here again!

The property is ideal if you want city and beach life. The rooftop pool was great with views you cannot get from ground pools! We were upgraded to a Master Suite which was spacious and clean. We had an issue with the AC in the last couple days but were told it was because you could not set the thermostat lower than a specific degree which was not the case or problem. We had friends in another room that had to use extra blankets because it was so cold. However, we did not press the issue too hard with the staff so more on us than them. Bar staff and servers in all locations were attentive and personable. Food selection was great - smaller facility means more taste and quality when not mass produced. We also chose the Elite option and visited the other 2 sister resorts a few times. Playacar had a great beach and Coco Beach was smaller but also very nice. The shuttle service was a bit confusing (need to be on a list?) and can get full so make sure you check before going. All in all a wonderful stay and we will be back!

While the Hotel was great there are a couple of things to consider. 1 - this hotel has only one pool and there is loud house type music playing all day, if you like a quiet time at the pool this isn’t for you. 2. There is a lack of sun-beds and although they had signs saying no reserving nobody took any notice. 3. Although it is a small hotel they allow day visitors so the pool area gets very busy. 4. The hotel advertises 3 restaurants and the rooftop snack bar but some nights there would only be 1 restaurant open and others only 2. There was never a time when you had a choice from all 3 restaurants. This being said we had a great time, the food and drinks were good and the access to 5th avenue and all the bars and restaurants was excellent.
