We enjoyed our stay here and was pleasantly surprised with how accommodating our host was. We were nervous after reading some reviews complaining about how the host was unhelpful or the property was lacking but our accommodation had everything we needed and was nice and warm. The host explained the bus schedule to us when we arrived and it was very easy to access Happo One within 10-15 minutes on the shuttle. We shipped our skis to the hotel and while he didn't communicate well with us ahead of time, he held our skis and even helped us ship our skis to our next location easily.
The only thing I would warn others is that there are limited restaurant options nearby (although there are a few within a 10-15 min walk) so plan accordingly or make a booking ahead of time that includes dinner at the property.
We had a good stay at Furuhata, but there were a few inconveniences. The onsen was fantastic—nice and hot, perfect after a long day of skiing. Towels and kimonos were replaced daily, which was a great touch, and beds were made every two days. The price was reasonable, and the shuttle to the ski resort was convenient.
However, there was no shuttle into town, bus station or train station and taxi options were nonexistent, which made getting around a bit tricky. There were only a few restaurants within walking distance, so food options were limited. The front desk staff didn’t speak much English, but Google Translate made communication easy.
Overall, a comfortable stay with great amenities, but be prepared for some transportation challenges if you want to explore beyond the ski resort.
The room was dirty , bedding old and not clean ,
Toilets stank ! It’s a hostel not a hotel !
Checked in one room had a look and left !! Found better round the corner for less
Charged me double when I arrived very uncomfortable to sleep

The hotel is not the most convenient to Hakuba town, but it is quite and there is a shuttle to two ski resorts (limited to three times a day, each way).
The breakfast is a great way to start the day and the onsen is a nice place to relax after a day of skiing.
The rooms are vintage charm, but the staff are so very friendly.
Fantastisk service! Verten kjørte oss til bussen ved avreise da vi hadde trøbbel med å få tak i ledig taxi. Veldig koselig område, samt praktisk med shuttle bus om man skal på ski.
Also not a fancy hotel, we have made our third family trip back to La Montaigne as it is simply a great great value for money. Yesterday we looked at five other similarly rated hotels and Pensions in Hakuba and nothing could beat La Montagne. The Japanese rooms are basic but bright and clean. The onsen in the basement is a godsend after a hard day on the slopes and the kids especially really appreciate this as part of our skiing routine. We also like that the hotel caters to mostly Japanese skiers.
Rooms are filled with stinky cigarette smells. Super dusty beddings. First dinner on New Year Eve was massively disappointing. Trash is not cleared daily. No peepads provided for pets, only 2 pieces of Newspaper for 3 days. Everything else was acceptable.
The place is nothing fancy, but it is very affordable, run by a lovely old couple, we were the only foreigners in the hotel which made it feel more authentic . The rooms are basic, the on Sen down in the basement was fantastic after a cold day on the slopes, my kids loved all of us sleeping in one room on the role out futons. If you require five-star creature comforts this is not the place for you, on the other hand if you want a lovely and fun place to stay that meets all your basic needs then this is the place!
When I made the reservation, I chose the hotel based from what I have seen in the website. However, I was very disappointed because the room we got was not as expected. The building was very old and untidy with NO private toilets which was NOT clearly defined in the Booking Confirmation. Also, the bath was in the other building across the street when it was clearly define in the Booking that there is a Private Bathroom and a bath tub.
LUCKILY, there were available rooms in the Main Building but I needed to pay an additional cost as an upgrade. IF THERE WERE NO ROOMS AVAILABLE IN THE MAIN BUILDING FOR US TO TRANSFER, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT DISASTER AND MY VACATION TOTALLY RUINED!!! If this will happen again, I promise I will not use Hotels.com again in the future.
