"Our stay at the Pestana Carlton Madeira Ocean Resort Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine warmth and professionalism by the staff, who went out of their way to make us feel at home. The hotel’s location is perfect—just a short walk from Funchal’s charming center, yet peaceful and right on the ocean. The views from the rooms and terraces are breathtaking, especially at sunset. We particularly loved the choice of swimming pools: the large sea-water pool with direct access to the ocean was a highlight, while the indoor heated pool provided the perfect retreat in the evenings. Breakfast was outstanding with a wide variety of fresh fruits, pastries, and local specialties. Every meal we had at the hotel was beautifully presented and delicious, with attentive service to match. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, offering all the modern amenities while still maintaining a relaxed, island atmosphere. The beds were especially comfortable, ensuring we woke up refreshed each day. What truly sets this hotel apart is the staff’s dedication to excellence—they consistently went above and beyond to ensure every detail of our stay was perfect. "What can I say? This property was 10 out of 10 coming from New York we loved everything about it with the balcony facing room of the water. Staff were super friendly. Food was good when everything in the area was closed down and my massage with Maria was out of this world book your spot ahead of time because it sells out very quickly. Upon arrival there’s no openings"

"Great location in Funchal! Perfect walking distance to everything — especially convenient after a long day of hiking and sightseeing when you want to just wander for dinner. The rooftop pool was stunning, with plenty of loungers to choose from. Such a relaxing spot to unwind. They also host nightly performers, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The entertainment felt top-notch (definitely not cheesy), and I loved it! The daily breakfast buffet on the terrace was a wonderful touch — a great way to start the day. ✨ Highly recommend!"

"We had a great stay! The hotel was clean, the breakfast was great and the rooftop pool was an additional plus to just wind down and take a dip after walking around and site seeing all day. The hotel was in a very convenient location. Highly recommend this hotel if you’re staying in Funchal! "

"The property is like going into a novel set in the late 1800- early 1900s. The original workmanship was beautiful and the updates have changed it a little but it still has the essence of the time. The key and mail cubbies are there and the library doesn't have many books but has some interesting old items. The pool, terrace, and balcony off my 3rd floor room gave guests several places to be outside to enjoy the wonderful view. The bathroom taps were tricky to turn on and then continued to drip when turned off, so that wasn't so good and they were a bit stingy on towels. The wifi is only in public areas of the hotel, not in the rooms. The rooms could use better lighting, lamps etc. so one could read at night. It's quite a hike up to the top of the hill, but it made up for missing my exercise classes. The staff were polite and very helpful, for example the taxi driver was waiting for me upon arrival at the airport and was there early when I left. The toast cheese and ham was just right for an evening snack. It was fun to picture ladies from long ago in their long dresses and hats going up and down the stairs. It's nice they are preserving such a wonderful building! Dr. S"

"This property was a true Portuguese Experience. The owners are so amazing!!! The rooms are not upgraded but it was fine for us. We loved it and would go back! Great location and close to so many restaurants and walk anywhere. I would highly recommend this property."
