"Very friendly front desk staff. Stayed on the way to a rafting trip to Oregon. I was pleasantly surprised to find the pool onsite. There’s a nearby Goldendale Observatory that has Night Sky program and afternoon Solar program. Worth checking out if you’re in town. "

"Cousins' was way better than it had any right to be. Yes, this is a basic motel, but it's a cut above the chains. Convenient location, affordable, and nice rooms with refrigerator, microwave, comfortable beds. The little things they chose made a big difference to our family road trip vacation: Comfy beds, quality coffee in the lobby refreshed throughout the day (and cookies, if you like that!). Pendleton blankets on the beds. Actual coffee mugs, Portland Roasting coffee, glass not...

"Very unique. It's a step back in time. Don't expect modern resort but you will get friendly authentic service provided by local people who bend over backwards to fulfill your needs and interests. Dufur is a very small old rural historical town in, what some would call, the middle of nowhere. If you want seclusion and enjoy country walks or bike rides and meeting really interesting people the Balch Hotel is for you as it was for us. The people really are fantastic. "Enjoyed the lovely spacious room overlooking the river. Don’t even mind the noise from the traffic on the bridge. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant on the deck with amazing views. Hotel restaurants are usually meh in my experience. This restaurant is truly a standout!"
