Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
Beautiful main building and we loved the cottage we stayed in for one night. It felt very welcoming and our dog Miki could cosy up in the dog bed they put out for him.
Beautiful grounds and location with excellent amenities. The restaurant was excellent with a great wine list and very friendly service. Would highly recommend for a getaway with that special person!
Friendly staff, cozy room, delicious food… what more do you need for vacation? The hotel locates close to all the major tour sites while hiding itself in a peaceful and private garden. This has become my only choice for hotel in north Wales.
The hotel has a lovely setting but the rooms need some tlc. The restaurant was very expensive and thecresto and bar service was moderate. I wouldnt return!
Wonderful. Beautiful gardens, gorgeous country house, friendly staff. We stayed in cottages in the grounds…the best of both worlds. Hotel with all the amenities and the privacy of a cottage.
The star here is the grounds and setting. Wonderful gardens, formal, practical (herbs, veg) and a wilderness walk.
We stayed in one of the cottages near the spa building. Quiet, comfortable.
The house is old and creaky and fully of character. Staff good, but you can be left wondering where they are sometimes, specially if you want a beer.
Spa has a great pool for swimming - i.e., it's big enough for proper swimming.
Fine dining is fine.
For the cost of the hotel I expected better service. There was one waiter serving from the bar and we sat on the lawned terrace for 25 minutes and no one came to serve us so I had to ask reception to send someone. The spa is very old and desperately in need of a full refurbishment. The food was fairly good but considering the cost wasn’t worth it as I've eaten better three course meals for less in many other top restaurants. It’s a shame as the setting is lovely with the hotel buildings, gardens, and the Snowdonia hills in the distance. It could be so much better with some improvements here and there but I didn’t feel it was worth the high end cost for what was in my opinion a mediocre experience.
Our 4th visit, 3rd in a cottage.
Our cottage was listed as a 'superior cottage' in Expedia terms, but each is different. We stayed in 'Baliff's house', with a downstairs lounge, separate kitchen with sink/kettle/fridge, upstairs to a large king bedroom with adjoining bath/shower room. There's a semi private garden just outside.
The hall itself is set in extensive and beautiful grounds, several hundred metres from the A470, so access is good and noise it minimal.
Ample parking, including areas very close to the cottages.
There's a spa (think girly stuff) but it has a great pool and is generally empty so you can have a proper splash around.
The main house is as you'd expect. Lots of nooks and crannies and 'high tea' or booze can be served anywhere.
The dining room is smallish (I think about a dozen tables) but well presented, excellent service and very find dining in the evening.
Staff very friendly and welcoming.
The grounds/gardens are really impressive. Check out pics on the web and satellite imagery to give a sense of scale. Big enough to get a decent about of exercise!
Love the place. As I say, it's our 4th visit, and it won't be our last.
Such a shame, incredible grounds but massively let down by the service. As someone who travels extensively, most of which in premium establishments - this was one of the most disappointing stays I have had (Room, Afternoon Tea & Spa)
- The greeting was inappropriate, only ever acknowledging me, never my fiancée (as if she wasn't there)
- The room was very very tired. I totally understand the constraints with the National Trust / listed building. However the room was very tired, extension cables around, alarm clock from the 70s. The cherry on top was at very high cost for a double bed - this ended up being two mattresses pushed together, absolutely no excuse for this
- We ordered afternoon tea, after sitting there for 20+ minutes I had to go to hotel reception to seek someone out to take our tea order. This was very surprising considering there was total 6 customers total there at the time. After this it was simply "which tea?" - service was very poor for this.
- We eat there for dinner. I ordered lamb and was asked how I want it cooked, I then said rare please - pink. However, I was given some of the most overcooked lamb I have ever eaten (see pic) it was then begrudgingly changed. Restaurant manager was very rude with this.
- For breakfast we were sat next to multiple dead flies. Rather than apologies from the restaurant manager we were told "this is simply nature". I would expect this at Wetherspoons, not for £30pp
- They charged us twice (rectified after complaint)
excellent country house. Staff where great and everything was very well thought out. Grounds are amazing. Lovely little cottage. Will return in the summer.
The hotel was lovely, very country house look & feel. The cottage we stayed in had open oak beams as had originally been a barn. The room was spacious but the decor was abit tired & could benefit from a re-furb eg new wallpaper. The bathroom & kitchenette were also abit dated, but everything was very clean & well equiped with good quality towels, bath robes etc
Amazing building with fantastic gardens, only a short drive from Llandudno, Conwy and Snowdonia, so an excellent comfortable base for exploring the area. Good food in the restaurant too. Also has a very pleasant pool and a small but not busy gym.
The hotel has character and the most beautiful gardens. The staff and service are excellent and the restaurant serves delicious food. Gorgeous, quirky accommodation but it could just do with a bit more of a thorough clean to try and avoid extra guests (spiders). Overall, we would definitely recommend this hotel.
We had a wonderful time at the Bodysgallen Hall with incredible service and wonderful facilities. I would recommend it highly. The only down side was the size of the dinner menu. We were at the Hall four days and were loathe to repeat some of the dishes since we enjoy variety. If the Hall were to have a different special each day, it would help. Otherwise, the food was good.
I have just returned from an overnight stay at this wonderful hotel - it was a truly utopian experience! From the first moment that I arrived the service was outstanding and the staff really take time to get to know you and make your stay special. This is a beautiful, historic house where you can escape the cares of the world and almost step back in time. Not once did I see any guest walking around with a mobile phone in the public areas and everyone respected the peaceful and quiet atmosphere of the hotel. The public rooms such as the library and drawing room are kept in their original state so you can sink into a plush sofa in front of a roaring wood fire surrounded by history. I particularly enjoyed my afternoon tea which was served privately to me outside my room on the first floor in a delightful alcove area. I had two wonderful treatments at the spa which is also an oasis of peace and calm. My room was perfect and very spacious with views over the surrounding countryside. Guests should definitely take a walk around the grounds and beautifully landscaped gardens. On my last day I just didn't want to leave and will definitely be returning for a longer stay next time.
I loved the whole experience - especially given I could have my dog stay with me in one of your cottages.
My only complaint was my breakfast - very disappointing. - bacon and blood pudding very dry and tasted as if it had been cooked for a while.
I had meant to write about this on your cards left in cottage - but ran out of time.
I would definitely stay again, but probably have the continental breakfast.
Glo Williams
We needed a break and were grateful to be able to take our dog. The walks around the hotel were delightful and the trips to various places we last visited twenty years ago brought back wonderful memories.
