We really enjoyed our stay. It was nice and quiet when we stayed. Room was lovely and bed was comfortable. I’d definitely recommend.

This hotel is old and run down. The room had a strange smell, carpet was dirty and the limescale on shower door was disgusting. The most annoying thing was the shower pipes next door was so loud it woke me up hours before i needed to get up.
Restaurant staff lovely and food was nice but the hotel is not worth the price.

The property was nice at reception but when we went to the room, it smelt of damp, one of the windows did not fully close so to keep the cold out we had to put tissue around it, the carpets are dirty with stains. the bathroom had visible dirt built up around the wall and mould around the bath. There were towels given to us that were once white and no large bath towel size but hand size. 2 towels in total. We asked for more towels and one of the towel had blood on it! We went to ask later for another toilet roll as there was a half used in the room upon arrival- shocking! The soap dish had rust on it.
The staff made no effort, poor customer service and quite arrogant. I would not recommend.

Confusion at checkout, otherwise good.
Had a perfectly pleasant stay, but this was marred by the experience during and after checkout. I had ordered drinks at the bar, and also some food on the evening of my stay, and had these charged to the room. On checkout, I was only charged for the drinks, and I mentioned that I had also had some food items to pay for. I was told by the reception staff on duty that those items weren't on the system, and as the service during my stay "hadn't been very good" (their words, not mine. I was happy with the service!), those items would not be charged to my card. I paid for the drinks, checked out, and went about my day. About two hours later I git a call from the hotel, and was told that I would have to pay for the food items. I told them that I had been told that there would be no charge for these, as that is what I was told when I checked out. I repeated this information twice more, and the call ended. Ten minutes later, the same person called again, and we had the same conversation. I was not happy about this at all, and ended the call after again explaining the situation. I have not heard back since, but I have not been left with a very positive experience of this hotel.

The first staff I dealt with had poor customer service skills. She looked like she didn’t want to be there, looked like she was forced !! If you don’t want to work please don't simple! I complained about how the room had a weird smell and the bed sheets had stains .. she was reluctant to move me .. but moved me to the room next door. Although it had the same smell I was reluctant to complain again as I did not want to be called a “Karen”!! The room was worse than the one before.. as the towels had yellow stains on them, the shower and bath gels had been used, the bath mat had been covered by a towel on the rail (it looked filthy), the bath had mould marks around, The floor had hair near the toilet and the sink, both the quilt and the bed had hair on them. The floor was not swept as it had mud stains. Instead of cups, plastic cups (similar to those of Costa or Starbucks) were displayed for tea but to make things worse they had been used and washed ( you could literally see the coffee stains on them). The kettle had limescale on the lid like its never been cleaned. I was so scared to have a shower and I couldn’t wait to move to another hotel. I m not making this up and one of my friends was a witness to all... I couldn’t handle it, I therefore booked myself to a more cleaner and reliable hotel for 4 more nights Hatfield as soon as I could. Never again will I ever book this hotel .. its not personal its just poor service. I took pictures as evidence lol

Tired, Dated and not not spotless
The hotel is very tired and really needs a refresh. Cleaning was also not great. I had lots of long thick dark hairs on my bathroom floor on my visit.

but the bathroom heater wasn’t on when I went into the room and the temperature was in the minus,bathroom door was

Very chaotic.
Receptionist was smiling and helpful, despite clearly having to put up with a total mess backstage.
Duty manager was neither on duty nor even onsite or anywhere nearby.
Computer had gone down on check in, and they could not program the room keys without it, so all that happened was the queue got longer and longer as no-one could get to their rooms.
No sign of a backup plan, either.
It's an old tired hotel, smeggy corridors and dilapidated fittings in many places. My room was not too bad - nice new-looking bathroom and comfortable bed. But seriously loud sucking and blowing noises from the sewage pipes every time another room flushed their toilet, enough to wake me several times in the night.
Finally after checking out and leaving, they called me to try to claim I'd eaten in the restaurant. Firstly why did this not show when I was checking out? And secondly, I hadn't eaten there, so what was going on? Faulty computer system again?
It was a shambles - I'd have to be feeling desperate before going there again.

Nobody informed regular hotel guests that a giant party was going to be happening during our stay.
The regular food and bar service was closed to regular guests unannounced.
The party guests were loud, belligerent, and drunk because they were over served. There were multiple under-aged kids drinking alcohol in the lobby. The noise level made it impossible to rest or even just simply enjoy watching television.
They are understaffed to handle that many people and their staff is untrained in dealing with a large intoxicated crowd.
When I tried to address the issue with the staff they appeared frightened, confused, and unable to address the drunkenness going on.
Some of the party guests became rude and threatening.
We had to lock ourselves in our room afraid to venture into the hallways or lobby due to this loud, drunken, abusive, and threatening group of out of control partiers.

Never Again
Started with over a 5 minute wait before someone appeared to check us in, went up to room which was like an oven as there was no AC and the windows were closed. Went into the bathroom and lifted the toilet seat which promptly fell on the floor, I had to secure the 'bolts' back in. The bathroom had an odd assortment of three different types of shampoo but nothing else apart from 2 plastic cups (see photo). Their was coffee and a couple of different types of tea bags, but no biscuits and we had to sleep with the window open which was very noisy due to the traffic on the A1M. Breakfast was chaos, waiting around for food/coffee/juice to come out to the buffet, I felt sorry for the two ladies working their as they were totally rushed off their feet and really doing their best, in fact the hotel should be grateful to them for their efforts. When we left the hotel there was no one at the desk again to mention all of this and so we simply left the keys on the counter. The whole experience was bad from start to finish and we will certainly not be staying there again nor recommending it to friends.
Room very basic, bed felt small but was comfortable. Nice and clean.
Hand basin tap can only be used on low as it was too powerful for the small sink and flooded. The night we stayed was particularly hot. No air con in rooms and no fans available, that made for a bad nights Sleep.

Missing Shower
I booked this room for a colleague attending an important meeting the following day.
The reviews were good and images were equallyvas goid so felt like a good choice. I was majorly disappointed and embarrassed to find out that there was no shower in the room as it had been taken away along with the shower screen.
Having checked in kate due to travelling my colleague raised the concern butbwas told there was nothing that could be done as there were no spare rooms.
A room the following morning was made available for a shower.
I find this really disappointing, if id booked a budget hotel id expect a lesser standard.
I think the fairest solution to be a full refund from the hotel.

Needs an update badly
Not the best in terms of condition, one pillow cushion on both sides, old appliances, no climate control system, old TV, not modern at all, poor quality carpets, not the cleanest. Presentation - 6/10

Comfortable stay, would benefit from a refresh
Hotel was in an easy location to get to with free parking. The rooms and bed were comfy, great service. Some areas of the hotel could do with an update though compared to other Mercure hotels I’ve stayed in.

Good location & suitable for 1 night
Good location to get to North Mymms Park for a wedding. The stay included a breakfast. Room had a kettle in the room which was nice. Hairdryer in the cupboard and few mirrors which was good. The room did get hot at night as no air conditioning.
