Relax in vast parks, appreciate artistic innovation and admire futuristic skyscrapers in this dynamic business district of Guangzhou.

Tianhe is one of the eleven districts that make up Guangzhou. Famous for hosting the 2010 Asian Games, the neighbourhood is full of fascinating cultural landmarks and events. Bring your family to this entertaining region and gaze up at impressive skyscrapers.

Get a glimpse of the local art scene with a trip to the Redtory Guangzhou. Admire the innovative way this former industrial site has been turned into an arts centre, with galleries showcasing contemporary works. Just south of the complex, embark on a romantic night cruise along the Zhujiang River.

Embrace a slower pace of life in Tianhe Park, a little north. Find a spot to relax in front of the picturesque lake. Spot birds on the park’s plaza and admire the design of the pavilions and terraces.

Travel west to the stunning Zhujiang Park, dwarfed by rows of tall trees and stylish skyscrapers. See the ducks and koi fish in the charming pond. The park is ideal for a pleasant stroll during its hot summers and warm winters. Monsoon season hits the area from April to September.

Walk through the heart of the district to reach the 19th Route Army Martyr Cemetery. It commemorates those who gave their lives in the fight against the Japanese Imperial Army in the early 1900s.

Note that the district was initially a tranquil farming village, mostly composed of rice fields. In the 1980s, it was incorporated into the city of Guangzhou, and rapidly expanded.

The district constitutes a large portion of northeastern Guangzhou, just north of Haizhu and west of Huangpu. Fly to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and drive south for 25 miles (40 kilometres) to get here. Ride a train from Hong Kong and other locations to the impressive Guangzhou East Railway Station. Get around the area by bus, metro or bicycle to make use of Tianhe’s many cycle lanes.

Shiny towers and scenic parks make up the cityscape of thriving Tianhe.
