Where to stay in Daegu

Find the best Daegu areas for the activities you enjoy most.

Jung-gu

Jung-gu buzzes with activity around Seomun Market, one of Korea's largest traditional markets. Colourful fabric stalls and sizzling street food create an authentic shopping experience. Herbal aromas float through Yangnyeongsi Oriental Medicine Market where centuries-old remedies are still sold today. The area preserves Korean heritage through sites like the Gothic-spired Gyesan Cathedral and colonial-era buildings. Narrow alleyways wind between traditional structures and modern signage. Three metro stations make exploring Jung-gu and greater Daegu simple and convenient for travellers seeking cultural immersion.

Chilseong-dong

Chilseong-dong offers a lively mix of traditional Korean commerce and modern business energy. The massive Chilseong Market fills the area with vibrant activity, enticing aromas, and local flavours. Visitors can explore countless stalls selling everything from fresh produce to handcrafted goods. The Daegu Opera House adds cultural flair to your visit. The area serves as Daegu's business hub while maintaining authentic Korean character. Wide boulevards in the commercial district contrast with narrow, bustling market alleys where vendors call out to passersby. Multiple subway stations make exploring easy, though the area's true charm comes from wandering its market paths and sampling street foods.

Banwoldang

Banwoldang sits at Daegu's beating heart where two major subway lines cross, creating a dynamic transport hub with endless connections. Underground arcades buzz with shoppers exploring neon-lit stores, while street food vendors add local flavour. Above ground, modern office towers frame bustling streets filled with commercial energy. The area offers travellers a convenient base with shopping centers, restaurants, and entertainment venues all within easy reach. Major attractions like Seomun Market and Gyesan Catholic Cathedral are just minutes away. Despite its urban setting, small pocket parks provide welcome breaks from the constant motion of this central Daegu district.

Suseong-gu

Suseong-gu offers a sophisticated escape from Daegu's city centre bustle. This upscale district balances residential charm with cultural attractions around the mirror-like Suseong Lake. Cherry blossoms and maple trees line the streets and parks. The area showcases both modern high-rises and traditional Korean architecture. Travellers can enjoy the nightly musical fountain shows at the lake or attend world-class performances at Daegu Opera House. The well-connected metro system makes exploring easy. Authentic Korean BBQ restaurants and cosy lakeside cafes provide perfect dining spots after visiting Duryu Park's extensive walking trails.

Dalseo-gu

Discover authentic Korean life in Dalseo-gu, a peaceful residential district in western Daegu. Tree-lined streets connect family areas to cultural gems like the Daegu National Museum and traditional markets. Escape to green havens at Daegu Arboretum or Gukchaebosang Memorial Park when you need a break from exploring. The area offers a genuine glimpse into local Korean culture away from tourist crowds. Enjoy home-style Korean cooking at family-run restaurants serving bulgogi and bibimbap. Getting around is simple with multiple metro stations including Sangin and Wolbae connecting you to city centre Daegu.

Hotel Susung

Hotel Susung

10/10 Excellent
"I am a solo traveller and stayed in a room with spa bath which I found to be useful after a running race,The gym was pleasant equipped well enough for my needs although it had a fee, The rooftop pool was wonderful but very busy on weekends. The breakfast was a good buffet style with lots of selection and good value. Staff arenโ€™t that good with English but didnโ€™t have a problem.Thereโ€™s plenty of restaurants close by and the lake is pleasant for a stroll"

"One morning, I went to the main desk to pay for my breakfast and was informed that the breakfast was full, and I could not be admitted. I was incredulous that, as a person staying at the hotel, I couldnโ€™t have breakfast. This left a very bad taste in my mouth to not feel welcome. I was not offered any alternative such as coming back in a half hour when perhaps the dining room would be less crowded."

Dongdaegu Station Eastern Hotel

Dongdaegu Station Eastern Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"Great value hotel! The property and the room were very clean. Amazing soaking tub in their standard room! Breakfast included was an added bonus with a good selection at breakfast. We went in the summer and noticed the hallwayโ€™s and lobby air conditioning was not on, which seemed unpromising. However, the AC in the room worked great and cooled down very quickly. Itโ€™s a steep 5 minute walk from/to Dong Daegu train station. You can cut thru the Shinsegae department store, for an easier commute to the hotel. Would definitely stay here again! An amazing bargain for couples and solo travelers, though there werenโ€™t many amenities for families or people traveling with children."
