"The cabin and location was fantastic. Needed a couple of hand towel for the kitchen, and I could not figure out how to make the clothes dryer heat, but overall an amazing stay."

"The hotel is well maintained and clean. The included breakfast was fantastic and the view from the restaurant was lovely. A great place to stay with easy access to Isle of Skye and the local restaurants and shops. The room was well presented and the bathroom with bath is fresh and recently renovated. The gentleman who I believe is the owner was very friendly and accommodating."
"We spent two nights at Balmacara Hotel during a family road trip through the Scottish Highlands, and it became one of the most memorable stays of our entire journey. The hotel sits right on the water's edge, with Loch Alsh stretching out before you and the Isle of Skye visible across the water. There is a rare quality to this location: complete solitude and stillness, yet a sense of being fully held by the natural world. We sat by the loch after dinner both evenings watching the light change over Skye long past 10PM. Cinematic does not begin to cover it.
The staff made this stay genuinely exceptional. The restaurant and bar team were warm, attentive, and consistently above and beyond in ways that felt completely natural rather than scripted. Room service was equally prompt and courteous. This is the kind of hospitality that comes from people who genuinely care, and it showed in every interaction.
For families driving the Edinburgh to Skye route, Balmacara is the perfect two-night base. The Skye Bridge is ten minutes away and Eilean Donan Castle is five. Do not rush through. The area rewards stillness.
Five stars. Without hesitation."
"Located in the same compound as the Lochness experience and the smallest Gin distillery in Scotland, this hotel is at a very convenient location. The room and bathroom was clean, the bed was comfortable and the overall stay was great. The staff are really friendly and helpful, a special thanks to Donald who checked us in super efficiently and was kind enough to answer our questions. The restaurant is overpriced, we only had some cakes and coffee, which was nice, can’t comment on meals. There was a fan in the room, which was nice since it was a warm day. No hair dryer/iron etc."
"The place is older and hasn't seen the best of maintenance in recent years it seems. The door to the bathroom in our room did not close due to misalignment. The shower stall had mold in the corners. The room itself smelled and felt damp. Nobody on site to complain to so we lived with it.
Considering our experience and what was paid we would not come back unless other options were booked up. Yes the place is cheaper than a lot in the area however it was still overpriced in our eyes."
"We had a lovely stay here, it is very much a hotel that does not feel modern, but is sort of refreshing in that way. A/C seems to be very uncommon in hotels in this area, but of the places we stayed in Northern Scotland this had absolutely the best/strongest fan. The room was large and comfortable, although the mattress might ultimately feel a bit thin if you are on the heavier side. The best thing about this hotel, in my opinion, is the proximity to the Inverness ScotRail station, upon which the hotel sits directly next to. It makes it a very easy jumping off point for any number of day trips, and is of course also centrally located to Inverness' city-center as well."
