Everything was clean and comfortable The food and breakfast also very delicious So lucky we got to stay here during our trip and we experienced Narai Juku before all tourists came to sight see . "Miyama Ouan has a lovely staff and is a fine place to stay. We had a good experience here and the setting in the mountains is beautiful. The property is dated and needs renovation. We spent the same amount of money elsewhere in Japan at far nicer ryokans. They need to spend a couple million dollars to update the rooms and the common areas. We felt it was not the best value for the money. Also, they do not have any western breakfast options, which is a negative for the price. A Japanese breakfast is basically the same as a Japanese dinner and for Americans, two Japanese dinners every day is not always that appealing. We liked Miyama Ouan, but would look at other options for the amount we paid."

"I really loved the traditional Japan vibe of the hotel it was amazing. Breakfast was delicious though mostly traditional Japanese they also had eggs potatoes bread sausage so there was variety. They also have a free shuttle bus that was great and convenient definitely recommend this hotel"

"This place had the feel of a "best-kept-secret"; gem-of-a-find type place. Everything about staying there was fascinating. As the management, to their credit, explicitly warns on their listings, the structure is old and rustic. But this wasn't a deterrent in any way, it adds to the charm and they do an excellent job keeping it clean, well maintained and accommodating. As a westerner looking to explore some backwaters parts of Japan and stay in a traditional Onsen ryokan that is not a tourist trap, this was the perfect best-of-both-worlds fit. The manager spoke good English and was helpful so that there was no confusion or culture shock, but none of the authenticity was compromised. I would certainly stay there again, even go out of my way again - drive up to the mountains - in order to stay there if overnighting en route to or from Tokyo southward."
