"The Portside Inn was one of the greatest stays my wife and I have ever had. The staff was extraordinarily kind and inviting, the atmosphere and design perfectly represented the cozy sea port town of Hakodate, and the location was second to none (many shops close by, sights to see, and restaurant choices all within a short walk). We wish we would have stayed longer as we made great friendships with the staff and enjoyed our time so much. We would absolutely recommend the Portside Inn to anyone looking for a more personalized and cozy stay in Hakodate."

"I personally have an issue with noisy walkers, so if your on the first floor you'll definitely hear people stomping through their room from above. Our room was okay. We had a bathroom, but was surprised in two ways. I thought upon entry there was no bathroom because of the layout (small). But there was a door that led to a bathroom that was a pretty good size. It needs a little bit of update, but it worked well. I'm american and the windows were cool. I didn't realize how it worked until checkout time. There's an inner set of windows directly in your room. Then there's a second set of windows that you have to open in order to get fresh or cool air into the room. The first set of windows were somewhat European and then the second outer set I guess maybe Japanese. My first time, but that was cool."

"We had a really lovely time here, and it was a perfect retreat after the busy atmosphere of Tokyo! The atmosphere of Hakodate is reminiscent of places like the Oregon Coast and Fairbanks, Alaska, that is, a slow-paced town in a cool climate with wonderful museums and historical sites related to indigenous community (in this case, the Ainu and other neighboring cultures) and a strong connection to the sea. The star-shaped Goryokuko was a unique stop we could have explored further. And I should add that the home itself is very comfortable and spacious, perfect for large families or groups of friends. It could be nice for a “stay in” weekend, just hanging out together, sitting on the balcony looking out at the sea. We walked down to the grocery store, about five minutes away along the water, and picked up supplies to cook dinner while we watched anime on the big TV. It was very homey and comfy!"

"Centrally located, great clean room with amenities like in-room washer & dryer, fridge, microwave, etc. Overall hotel was maintained very clean and tidy Staff were very pleasing, professional and ready to help in providing directions to site-seeing locations, shopping, transportation and restaurants in the Ginza. Breakfast selection was great with fresh breads, fruits, other dishes with vegan/vegetarian options."
