Good location near major points of interest in downtown Xi’an, but the hotel is definitely dated and doesn’t warrant a 4.5 rating. I’ve traveled quite a bit in western China, often in rural areas, and been in significantly better hotels. Beds are hard, which is typical, but most places billed as luxury hotels have more comfortable ones. We had two rooms. One smelled like smoke. The front desk did allow us to change rooms, but not before arguing that it was a non-smoking floor and shouldn’t smell. When housekeeping came, they agreed it smelled. When we returned from a long day of site seeing, we found our room keys weren’t working. It turned out they had misread our online booking and only checked us in for one day, not three. They insisted we pay another 2000RMB deposit, which meant our deposit was significantly more than the total of all nights stayed. It’s been 5 days since we checked out, and one of the 2000RMB deposits still hasn’t been refunded. Also, don’t ask the concierge to get you a taxi. It’s much faster to go outside and hail one yourself.
