The Verso is a clean, compact, European style hotel you would expect from London or similar areas. Staff were friendly and spoke English (not something you find in all Chilean hotels). The included breakfast was comparable to others we've had in the country. Not as substantial as some, but much better than the continental breakfasts you would get in North America. The rooms all had nice big widows and doors leading to a small balcony for airflow. This hotel doesn't have AC, however, and the hot tub shown in the photos has to be rented out (I think it was $7pp if I remember correctly).
There were only two downsides to staying here - first the large windows are not great at keeping out sound, so it may not be the most restful sleep - there are vehicles and dogs outside which you can hear into the early morning. Second, the hotel isn't that close to the downtown squares if you were planning to walk everywhere. To get over to Plaza Sotomayor is 40-50 minutes going downhill. Distance is hard to gauge based on a map alone. If you have bad knees you should look into staying near the water as you are also up the hill a ways.
On a positive note, there is a lovely restaurant on the top of the hotel with great views and if you are a Pablo Neruda fan, the hotel is located next to his home "La Sebastiana".
My advice would be to figure out what you want to do in Valpo first, and pick your hotel based on location. This one was a bit far to walk back to for lunch/a break, so we ended up s
