My room had views of rice paddy fields and has a rural outlook. Rooms are cleaned and beds made everyday. Good breakfast options. The staff are friendly and will help arrange transport to go into town or go on a private tour with own driver. Short walk into town with many dining options.

The Samara is one of the most beautiful places that I have stayed. The views of the rice fields are so amazing and the pool is so clean and lovely. The staff are just beautiful, so accommodating, so helpful and so friendly! It’s about a 10min walk to get there from the Main Street but if you need the staff can drop you off and pick you up from the scooters. The room is cleaned daily, the breakfast is included and there is afternoon tea provided between 4-5pm. I will be looking forward to staying here again one day.

The position itself was beautiful, away from the busy Main Street. The staff were very accommodating in ferrying us to and from the Main Street on bikes. The villa was lovely but basic in amenities and a bit worn, ie mould on pool edges and borer eaten furniture. The two bedroom villa has an external staircase to upstairs which was tricky in the rain. We were disappointed that there was no restaurant or bar as advertised as were far from restaurants and they only offered Italian food delivery. Lovely position but not worth the $300 a night cost for these oversights.

Interesting stay at The Samara, Ubud
Suggest you get firmer mattresses for the rooms. It was nice waking up to see much greenery. It was for me, an almost death-defying ride on the motor bike through the narrow paths each time! They go really fast! We didn't know that that was the only way to get to your hotel. Suggest the hotel install container boxes at the back of the motorbikes for their staff to hold the luggage of their guests. This is to ensure their safety and will provide guests the assurance that their luggage will not fall off the bike during transportation. We totally enjoyed the serenity and beautiful surroundings, it is back to nature for us. My daughter like the quietness. It was overall a memorable stay for the three of us.

Home away from home
Greeted at The Samara by Stephano and his lovely team, you immediately feel at home. A 15 minute walk from the main road in Ubud, it's secluded from the traffic and noise in the serenity of the rice terraces. The distance to town is no issue because they provide a free bike shuttle to the Starbucks at the bottom Jalan Kajeng any time of day. You’re also provided with a phone to call the hotel and request a pick-up from the same spot (also 24 hours). My room was spotless and clean. The bathroom looked brand new and modern. The outdoor shower is perfect for the Ubud heat. The bed was very comfortable, the air-con flawless, no issues with Wi-Fi. Each room has a small balcony overlooking the pool, rice fields and immaculately kept gardens. The included breakfast was as good as any I’ve had at full-service restaurants in town. They even arranged a packed breakfast when I needed to leave at 2.30am for my Mount Batur trek! The kitchen is open for lunch and dinner, plus free refreshments at 4pm (which I sadly never got to attend as I was always exploring town). There’s really nothing not to love about this place, it was a joyous stay. You'll fall in love with what Stephano and his team have accomplished. You can tell the staff take pride in making your experience as relaxing as possible and before leaving you’ll feel like part of their family. Cannot recommend The Samara highly enough!

Quiet spot in bustling Ubud
Beautiful views from the hotel over the rice paddies. Staff was so friendly with great English. Hotel is walking distance to "downtown" Ubud, but far enought away from the bustle that it is a peaceful and relaxing spot. Breakfast was delicious! Vegetarian options available. Will definitely stay here again! One thing to note: if you are bringing a lot of luggage, cars can't quite make it up the narrow & steep path to the hotel - staff is wonderful and will certainly help you navigate that.

Must try the in town Italian restaurant. Gr8 time
We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel has an Italian restaurant in the city that they told us about when we checked out. Seriously the two best pasta dishes my wife and I have tasted (I ordered the one that is the backdrop photo on the menu and it was prime prime). My only piece of advice for the staff is to promote it a bit more! The person that checked us in marked the restaurant on a map and said it is the hotel restaurant in the city, but it was sort of a side note that we are glad we did not overlook. When we noticed one of the owners or managers was Italian, we knew we had to give the restaurant a try! Maybe they should have a business card with a map on the back? The person who checked us in noticed it was my birthday on the second day of our stay, and without prompt from my wife, organized a celebration song and treat for breakfast. The staff gives you a ride to the village on their scooters which is a fun short adventure. I took a quick dip in the pool. It was cool and not luke warm like some places. The staff was extremely caring and did everything within their power to make us happy. One night my wife hit her head super hard late at night and the guy on staff got me ice and was really helpful with the situation. He just truly cared and we were very grateful.

The rooms were updated and very nice. The breakfast and restaurant staff were exceptionally good. However, there was work being done to the property and the steps and pathway being torn up while men worked to repair them. There was constant noice and a mess. The grounds are overgrown and need work. We paid $197 Canadian for two nights which I thought was an absolute rip off. With the mess of the construction, they should mention it on Expedia and whichever other sites they use and they should be offering a reduced rate to potential customers.

The Samara was absolutely an amazing place to stay. You're served with an amazing welcome drink at check in and provided with a map and a phone for their shuttle service. The rooms were great and well stocked with toiletries and even a complimentary fruit basket. The location was A+ You're in the middle of rice paddies so far away from the busy streets of Ubud, but they also provide you with a phone for shuttle service to and from the hotel so you're only minutes from the action. The breakfasts were very large with lots of options. Get. A. Massage. It was an in room service and so relaxing! I would definitely reccomend this place!

TLC required
Check in perfect. The room itself was great however our toilet seat wasn’t secure. We mentioned this but it took a reminder to be repaired and over 5 days. The pool area needs the decking replaced, loose planks. The sunbeds are also in need of repair. I fell through one but luckily no harm done. It never got repaired during our stay. Towels on the sunbeds need replacing as they are stained. The owners are great along with the staff. Breakfast was good. No access by car to this place but they will collect you by moped. 15 min walk into town which is a lovely walk. Good location. This could be a superb place it just needs some TLC.

Response from Stefano on 4 Dec 2018
Dear Mr. Matthew, Thank you for your feedback, which we greatly appreciate. We would like to let you and everybody else know that we are already working on all things you've mentioned. The pool deck has in fact being fixed and there are no more loose planks. Sunbeds have been serviced, and we are now waiting delivery of the new towels which should arrive soon. If we haven't followed up earlier it has been because of the high villa occupancy, and we sincerely apologize. In the meanwhile we have also painted all the walls, serviced the entrance gate, and adjusted a few facilities by making them more eco-friendly. We are sure you will be back to our "superb" villa now that maintenance has been executed. Thank you once again for your feedback, and we look forward to welcoming you soon! Best regards, Stefano Facchini Guest Relations Manager

Great little hotel about a 20min walk outside of town. The villas are all nicely done ans comfortable. We sometimes had a few “friends” in our outdoor shower - large geckos on the roof and a cat - but all harmless and fun to see! The pool and view of the surrounding rice paddies is amazing - and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They give you a phone to call if you need a ride back from town but the walk isn’t too bad - just a little hot in the day time and the occasional bat if you are coming back at night. Breakfast is really good too. We loved our stay and would have stayed longer if we could!

What an oasis!
The Samara, Ubud was exactly what we needed after a hectic two weeks traveling around Asia. We arrived at night and were amazed when we were able to see the setting when we woke up the next morning. It is absolutely stunning, and what an amazing location. Amid the rice paddies, with no noise other than the sound of the occasional duck in the fields. The staff were extremely accommodating, and every afternoon came around to guests to see if they would like a complimentary hot beverage. Transport to an from this oasis is on the back of a scooter which is provided by the Samara. They will collect you from a pick up point at any time of the day, and drop you off in town. This is part of the charm of the Samara...no cars or noisy traffic. Would certainly recommend this place if you are after a relaxing stay in Ubud.

Excellent, very quiet hotel overlooking rice field
This small hotel is situated 400m from the end of Jalan Kajeng and the hotel provides a motorbike transfer for luggage and occupants. It can also be reached on foot. The motorbikes are available to provide an foc transfer to Ubud situated one km away but also very walkable. Very quiet location, the only disturbance coming from inconsiderate occupants. Very cooperative, friendly staff who will do everything within their power to help solve a problem or provide information. Excellent breakfast. Afternoon tea/coffee provided foc if required. Fully equipped rooms.

Highlight of our trip to Bali! Amazing!
Our stay at the Samara was the highlight of our 9 days in Bali. We stayed in Ubud the whole trip and did the first part 'in town' and the second part out in the rice fields/ village at The Samara. So glad we chose the Samara as it was so beautiful and relaxing, whilst only being a 10minute walk back to town or a 2 minute free scooter ride. The area around the hotel is stunningly beautiful and walking through the surrounding village is very interesting with lots to see. The staff at the Samara were amazing and made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The food at the restaurant was very good, we tried the breakfast lunch and dinner - all very fresh and tasty. The wonderful cooks even made some off-the-menu dinners for our kids. The driver used by the Samara (named Ray) was truly amazing. He was very helpful, spoke very fluent English, knew lots about everything we wanted to know! We did a couple of day tours with him as well as the airport transfer, with our baby and toddler in the car and felt very safe. Absolutely recommend this hotel for anyone travelling in Bali.

Lovely boutique property
We stayed at The Samara last year and came back for another 5-night stay. The Samara itself is ideally located just north of Ubud's main street (Jl Raya Ubud) surrounded by rice fields. There are only 6 rooms (three sets of 2 adjoining rooms)which makes it a good experience in terms of getting to know the friendly staff. The rooms are fairly small, with not much room for your bags/cases. The bathroom is a good size with an outdoor (walled) shower. The air conditioner struggled to keep the room cool - we had it set on 17 degrees (Celsius)all the time whereas we would normally set the temperature to 23-25 degrees. The bed was quite springy - you could feel the coils - but we slept okay. We were in room 4 which got the morning sun so the room was light early each morning. Rooms 1, 3, 5 should get less early morning light. Nice choice for breakfast, good wi-fi and a reasonably sized swimming pool are good features. For me - I'd say 4.5 out of 5 overall.

Best stay in Ubud
Had a 3 nights stay over at The SAMARA. It was defintely a throughly enjoyable experience. The hotel grounds though small in size is located within the lush greenery of paddy fields which provides a cosy and intimate feel. Great customer service provided by the staff as well as both the owners, Stefano and Yudi. Had an excellent seafood dinner which was recommended by yudi. All in all, it was a great stay in this lovely hotel and i will defintely do it again if going to Ubud in the future.

Our favorite hotel in Bali
We stayed at many hotels in Bali during a 2+ week stay and the Samara was easily the best place we stayed. The service was exceptional, the hotel was very clean and nice - we really enjoyed it. Do note that you can not drive a car to this hotel although they will come get you on a scooter and bring your stuff to the place. It's about a 15 minute walk to town, but rent a scooter not only because they are fun but only $5us a day to rent. It was our honeymoon and they really made us feel great. Would absolutely recommend this hotel!

A rice paddy boutique hotel
Loved this hotel. It's only 6 rooms, so it feels like a very private experience. Other reviews mention or complain about the walk to the hotel, but that never bothered us. If needed, the hotel gives you a local cell phone and you can call and have them pick you up and take you back into town on scooters. VERY peaceful location, although the practice of building in the rice fields needs to be slowed down, if not stopped altogether. My most minor observation was that the room was a bit on the smaller side.

The highlight of our trip to Bali!
My husband and I loved The Samara so much, we ended up staying an extra night! The location is absolutely stunning, so much so that we enjoyed spending our mornings poolside taking it all in rather seeing the sights of Ubud. We also made a point of coming back each for the complimentary tea where we enjoyed watching the afternoon parade of ducks coming in from the rice paddies. Staff were always helpful and friendly. I'd go as far as to say that they were the most professional and competent we encountered in Bali. It should be noted that unless you pre-arrange for hotel staff to pick you up, you will be forced to walk to last few hundred meters or so to the hotel, as cars are unable to pass after a certain point. We didn't mind this at all and enjoyed the 15 minute walk through past the terraces and down the winding alley to central Ubud.

Bliss in the ricefields
We loved our time at the Samara. The hotel is located amongst the ricefields surrounding Ubud, and was a beautiful retreat from Ubud city centre only a short 15 mins walk away. Once you turn into Jalan Kajeng you gradually leave the hustle and bustle behind. We found the walk into the Samara wonderful, at night the fireflies were beautiful and during the day meeting the friendly local villagers gave you an insight into their daily life. We could not fault our room or the facilities and food offered by the hotel. A special thank you to the hotel staff who helped with any request we had. I enjoyed my first motorbike experience also. Thank you Stefano and Yudi and your fantastic staff for making our stay a wonderful experience.

Quiet oasis, yet close to everything
I stayed at the Samara in late August for 4 nights. The staff were very helpful and the place is lovely. You can't get a car to the door, so be mindful of that, but the hotel will arrange a free airport pickup for you so you don't need to worry. You just need to email them (check their website). You also need to email them if you have any special requests as expedia doesn't pass on your email details to the owners of the hotel. The owners are very happy to meet any requests. I was really happy with the place - it was clean and the breakfast was great and the service was excellent and it's only 10-15 mins walk from the center of Ubud. The rooms are very nice, but the walls are a little thin between you and the other room in the cottage. don't let this put you off though, as the guests were all very quiet when I was there. The bathrooms are nice and the outdoor (but private) shower was great! Very lovely location for the hotel - among the rice fields. I would definitely recommend this for a great stay in Ubud.
