"The hotel was in a good location, near to the university and much of the tourist sites in Edinburgh. However, the quality of the hotel was not at all fitting for the whopping $400/night cost. The bed was uncomfortable. The room was airless (no control options. I slept poorly four of the five nights there. The breakfast offered was very good, but not at all worth $30! I only did that once. I don't know how Novotel justifies their high prices."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Melville Castle. Our 2 bedroom suite was spacious, frankly it was huge! We only wish we had more time! We ate at the restaurant. Food was good, but very pricey. They had paper menus which took away from the experience of an upscale restaurant. They charged for water, as well as the garlic butter or red wine for the steak and offered no bread. The sticky toffee pudding was good. Overall, the restaurant was just okay for the cost, but it was convenient. They have a lovely library bar which we enjoyed as well. The grounds are very nice, too."
