the location is the best thing, just 5min walk from the main takayama station. the place is no-frill and basic and meets the needs but the communal dining area is too small for the amount of rooms it has. it is always busy and quite hard to get seats if you want to cook your own food but overall, it was a good place to stay for the price.

Very tidy and lovely Hostel equipped with everything you need. A good bed and nice bathroom. The staff are very nice and shared all they know about the area. I had a great stay!

An OK Hostel with English speaking staff
This is a hostel perfect for backpackers. As such for families especially young family, it would be just ok. The hostel is close to the JR Takayama station and the map provided by the receptionist is extremely helpful. The inn is probably run by English speaking operator so language should not be a problem. Our room was bunk bed of 4. Be careful the room is slightly either elevated or collapsed at entrance which can be an ankle hazard. Otherwise really ordinary room. Would look elsewhere if good alternative is available.

For a hostel, great.
I booked the private room and was disappointed to only have one night. It was a really nice hostel, very friendly and cosy. They were strict about the check in time but it’s nothing that wasn’t advertised.

Hostel is very close to the Nohi bus station, 3 minutes by walking. However we find that the requirement to remove your shoes at the hostel entrance and bringing them in a plastic bag to the room is a bit inconvenient. Need to make up your own bed even staying at a private ensuite. It will be good if there is chair in the room. Overall a good choice to stay in Takayama.

If you wear socks it is not that bad
When entering into this hostel, guests must take off their shoes and put into one of the plastic bag provided at the entrance, and then change into their in-house slippers which were shared by everyone. I wonder how often staff would wash those slippers! I would avoid using the slippers due to hygienic issue.

The location of K'house was convenient which was about 5 mins walk from Takayama bus station and ten mins walk from the beautiful old town. Staff were nice and helpful. There was a fully equipped kitchen on ground floor with everything you need for self-cooking. Paid laundry was available too. Free bottled water or kettle/mug was not given in the room therefore guests must travel to kitchen to get whatever you want. The room was very small but the most annoying thing was the raised floor in the room as shown below, it was a terrible design and easily got your ankle twisted since it was not noticeable. This room is definitely not suitable for elderly people or handicapped.

The staffs were very helpful and friendly. The room (triple private room) was quite small but okay for a short stay. The location is not far away from Takayama Station and Nohi bus centre (walkable distance).

I am very satisfied with K's House Takayama, in fact I love all K's House Hostel. It's very clean and homely. It has lovely lounge and dining place which makes us love to dine in. The staff is extremely nice and friendly. They have also provided great service when I have requested a delivery of my lost item from the other K's Hse branch. I highly recommend this place. Will definitely stay here again the next time I visit Takayama.

Great hostel in a really good location.
The location is great and the facilities are excellent. The rooms are clean and a good size. This hostel has a good clean kitchen and sitting area with a full private bathroom attached to each room. More like a good hotel than a hostel.

The hotel staffs were very helpful and friendly. There was a piece of paper indicating where to eat, where the supermarkets are and where everything essential is. The hotel is very clean and the room has enough space. They also have a bike renting service. Overall a great hotel!

Great hotel with great amenities. Inly drawback we had was that the hotel did not supply milk and sugar despite providing tea etc facilities in the room. Apart from that, our short stay was great.

Great location and value for money
I booked this place because I had heavy luggage and it's very close to the station. Location was ideal could get everywhere easily by walking. I stayed in a single room, best value for money I've seen in Japan so far. Only a little more expensive than a dorm room, well worth the money for privacy and your own bathroom. The room is small, of course, but for a solo traveller it's perfect. Staff are friendly and give a really thorough explanation of things to do and recommendations when you check in which was great.

Very pleasant
Very pleasant hostel. PROS: 5 min walk from the train station, close to everything, very well maintained common areas and kitchen with the usual (stove - microwave - fridge - utensils), separate luggage storage room. Also, private bathrooms in the rooms! CONS: the room is tight, just enough space for the suitcases and you, but that's very normal for Japan. Otherwise no problems at all, will happily stay there again.

Room was very spacious compared to the pictures shown. Very friendly and helpful staff that help you choose what to do and where to eat. Cheap bicycle hire and good range of facilities. Very close to Takayama station.

Good place to stay but don't get the platform room
A good place to stay for a couple of nights. We had a double bed room which would have been okay except for a raised platform on the floor that filled the entire area next to our bed except for a 15cm gap between the platform and our bed base. One had to be constantly aware of the gap to avoid hurting one's foot/ankle when one got in and out of bed. Much cursing To make matters worse the matting on the platform was slippery. We ended up sometimes crawling up from the narrow walkway at the bottom of the bed to get into bed. The platform might be a Japanese design feature but practicality wise in a small room it was a total nuisance. Another room with a double bed had a normal open floor - we wished we had been given that room instead. It would also have been great to have had a miror in the room for when one blow dries ones hair. There isn't a power point in the bathroom. On the positives the staff were friendly and helpful and lent me an extension cord - needed as the power point is high on the wall so it meant one's phone was left dangling when charging as mine has a short cord. It was great to be able to cook for ourselves after 10 days of bought restaurant meals. Sauces are supplied which was very helpful. Having an English newspaper in the lounge with a brewed cup of coffee at breadfast was a great way to start the day. All in all recommend K's House but try and avoid getting our room - we were very glad to say goodbye to that platform when we left.
