It’s like stepping back in time to visit a town, farm, colliery village and old hall and getting to experience what it was like to live in those places from about 1910 onwards. There are staff who take on the roles of various locals that really bring this place to life. Incredible value

Very welcoming, staff really pleasant. Everything you could want. Amazing breakfast! Our bedroom was near the road which was quite busy/noisy at night. I am NOT COMPLAINING as I didn't request a different room.

Lovely place. Friendly staff and nice breakfast despite Hotels.com putting on their website that there is no breakfast at weekends!! Needs correcting but can only be done by the website.

A Warm Welcome

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay, and were made to feel extremely welcome by the owners. Our room was clean and beautifully furnished, endless tea and coffee making facilities, clean towels and a modern bathroom with ample hot water and complimentary toiletries. Best of all, was our superb full English breakfast each morning; cooked to order, fresh eggs, thick bacon with ample coffee and toast. The B & B was perfectly placed for visits to Beamish, Newcastle and Durham. We will hopefully return to visit Stanley in the future and will be only to pleased to book another stay with Lindsey & Michael.

Room above a pub, good breakfast, good staff.

Very friendly owners. Arrived at 18:30 and room was not ready. But that was soon rectified and I had a complimentary drink while waiting. Bed/mattress was very soft. Maybe because I am used to a very firm mattress this was err... strange? and took some getting used to. Room was clean and towels were good quality. Excellent breakfast.

The owners are really friendly and helpful. The room was a good size. Breakfast was perfect. The garden is really well kept and it was lovely to sit out there with my morning cuppa. Really a lovely place to stay.

It was a lovely guest house, above the pub, we had no problems what so ever. The room was warm clean and with tv/tea making facilities. The breakfast was superb as was the service. We stayed because of a family wedding at the South Causey, 5 minute walk, no need for transport. Recommended and I would not hesitate to stay again. Thank you.

Excellent little place

Our stay at Ball Alley was fantastic. Check in was seemless even though we arrived quite late. Staff were super friendly and accomodating and the food was lovely. Even though the accommodation is above a pub you would never have realised, we didnt hear any noise. Lovely little place and i would definitely stay there agin if im in the area.

Underpriced and they over deliver. BARGAIN

Stayed 1 night and would have paid double what they asked me.. had a single room ok wasn't huge but bed was really comfy great shower tea or coffee biscuits supplied decent tv with good reception.. excellent breakfast and some good chat with the owner...

Home from Home

Great Bed and Breakfast and very reasonably priced. Owners very helpful and Michael does a hearty cooked breakfast - perfect start to the day. Would definitely consider staying here in the future when back in the area.
