"I had a smoke detector die in my room and start beeping around 8 at night. I called the front desk, they said maintenance was gone and they didn't know what to do. They first told me to take the battery out. I refused as I was not physically able to climb on the chair and reach the detector. Furthermore, it seems like a poor idea to instruct your guests to remove the batteries from safety equipment. I called again and pressed for an answer.
