Soufriere

Travel Guide
Jalousie Beach
Visit a modest Caribbean town surrounded by a striking backdrop of mountain peaks, volcanoes, deep blue sea and lush rainforest.

Soufrière is a laid-back town located in the southwest of St. Lucia Island. Discover a geothermally active area with enormous volcanic peaks, hot springs and mineral baths. Take a trail through the rainforest and swim in the picture postcard beaches.

The Gros Piton and the Petit Piton are two giant volcanoes also known as the Twin Pitons. The striking cone-shaped mountains located south of Soufrière are a UNESCO site. On your way to Petit Piton have a swim in the warm waters of the almost 30-feet (9.1 meters) high Piton Waterfalls. Visit the beautiful Jalousie Beach and snorkel while enjoying the views of the Pitons. Go to Sulphur Springs, known as the Caribbean’s only drive-in volcano. It’s a very active geothermal area with hot springs, bubbling mud pools and steam vents. Enjoy Soufrière’s range of dining options, from international cuisine to local food in the snackettes (snack bars).

Soufrière is ideal for walkers and hikers. The Twin Pitons are a very popular climbing site and there are guided tours that you can join. The Tet Paul Nature Trail is an easy to moderate hike which takes about 45 minutes to complete. If you prefer a walk with great sea views, visit Anse Chastanet Beach and take the trails along the coast.

Reach Soufrière by road or by sea. Rent a car, catch a local bus, grab a taxi or even a water taxi. A local bus connects Soufrière with Castries, the capital city of St. Lucia. You can also get minibuses from Vieux Fort, a town to the south of St. Lucia. There are plenty of car rental agencies dotted around the island where you can also rent scooters, bicycles and motorcycles. If you intend to rent a car, be sure to check the requirements for driving licenses and be aware that the roads are narrow, winding and with few traffic signs.

Explore Soufrière and discover the everyday life of a Caribbean town with many beautiful natural treasures.

"We had a great stay at Samfi Gardens. The view of Soufriere and Pitons was incredible. It was quiet and peaceful. At times, you could have the pool to yourself. It is a small but busy town, visited by boats and tourists. It has all the basic amenities and lots of nearby attractions. Someone not used to travelling to less touristy Caribbean towns/villages may be put off but the scenery is spectacular!

A quiet town on the beach. Not so many good eating options but enough for a few days. Well worth a visit but gets busy when the tour boats come in.
