"Our host at Au Fer à Cheval was Romain, a friendly and helpful man. He owns about 20 English thoroughbred race horses, as well as breeds them. His farm is in a beautiful location with lovely views. It was unfortunately cold and wet for the two nights that we were there, so we couldn't use the pool, and the roads were too slippery for him to take us out in his horse-drawn carriage, but we did see two of his retired racing mares with their foals. "This hotel was overall an outstanding experience. The rooms are somewhat quirky but met all of my needs and I had a very good night’s sleep there. My stay included dinner and breakfast. The dining room is lovely with a wonderful view of the garden. It’s obvious that the chef is serious because even though I had the “cheaper” option, my dinner was still better than many other places I have been on my trip.
