"We stayed for a couple of nights, having breakfast & dinner twice. After a rather brusque check-in with a middle aged Asian gentleman (the owner?), we made our way to Room 10, a king sized room with an additional bed in a side room. As we had our Jack Russell with us, this may be a pet-friendly room. The bedroom was beautifully clean, and the beds comfortable. I think the bathroom had not long been fitted, and had a fabulous shower along with all the complimentary soaps/showergels/shampoos that have disappeared from so many hotels these days. A thoughtful touch was the battery night light that came on at night, saving us from being blinded by the brightness of the usual bathroom lighting. The only thing that marred our sleep was the noisiness of some pump or other that kept going on and off all the time. We eventually got used to the noise so didn’t ask to change rooms. The pièce de résistance of our stay though was the restaurant staff, especially Stephen & Shubham, who went out of their way to be pleasant and helpful. The food was excellent. Unusually, the pub offered a short Indian food menu, alongside the usual pub grub. On our first night we chose that, and were very happy with the dishes we chose. On Sundays, the Blue Boar offers an all day Sunday Roast, right up until 8pm, so after being out all day it was a pleasure to have that to look forward to. Both days we chose to have a “Full English” breakfast, but cereal and yoghurt was available too. We recommend it!"

"I arrived just before 6pm to find my room wasn’t ready, so I waited in the bar. When I finally got in, the room was okay but lacked basic in‑room amenities—there were no cups or kettle, as these are kept in a separate kitchen, which was sparsely stocked. Although I knew the bathroom was shared, I was surprised there was no sink in the room. There were also cobwebs that hadn’t been cleaned, and the door didn’t feel secure; it kept banging in the wind overnight until I wedged it shut. Breakfast must be pre‑ordered the night before, so I missed out. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and dinner was passable."

"Check in could be improved. Arrived to a busy pub with customers waiting for service at the bar and no designated check in desk. Several staff just walked past us with our bags and no one acknowledged we were trying to check in for several minutes. The room was okay but not as shown on our booking confirmation - it was an attic room with very steep stairs and a not very safe landing area outside the door. The bathroom had been shoehorned in under a sloping ceiling - there was no shower, just a bath with handheld shower attachment. For anyone elderly or with any motability issues this room would have been totally unsuitable - the bath was very difficult to get in/out even with a grab rail. The bedroom had sloping ceilings - resulting in banged heads. Breakfast was good but the menu in the room folder is not the breakfast menu on offer. Parking is in a busy pub carpark and can be a challenge to find a space. Overall we had a nice stay but there is potential for improvement. "
