"I’ll start by saying it may just be our North American standard of a 5 star to be impeccable in all areas but this hotel was not that. The staff were 5 star amazing and accommodating and helpful but otherwise this hotel would fall in a 3 star rating. Our first apartment was disappointing in that the shower had a spraying leak, the tub wouldn’t plug to bath our son, the toilet had a crack/leak, the safe didn’t work, the espresso machine didn’t work, the laundry did not work, you could not shower at night if the apartment above had just showered (we waited 2 hours and still no hot water for our baby), and lastly the ants were everywhere.. we found them in our sons crib. The staff were very helpful and fixed what they could but ultimately they couldn’t fix it all and told us they would move us in 24 hours which then did &we really appreciated it. Our next apartment was significantly better but the tub water came out brown so we had to shower our son, and the drain had to be fixed, we did not have a safe in the room but they did bring one, our kitchen had different items/no pans to make stove top but by this point we felt we had asked for too much and the staff was trying their best! The furniture was extremely worn and had stains which is fine but just not something you would expect for 5 stars. The amenities were good but again worn out. The deck around the spa pool was falling apart &the steam room was out of order. More of a maintenanceissue than anything. Great location"

"Fantastic hotel, amazing pools… sauna/ steam room. Gym closed but due to be reopened this week. Spotless throughout, and just a fantastic break. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful, something for everyone. Sangria at the bar hit the spot ;) Downloaded Bolt to get to and from the old and new town."

"Room was clean, choice at breakfast was good and view from room & location in portimao was all great. The hotel itself was just a little dated and some things maybe not 5* more of a 4. You couldn’t get an iron until 4pm +. You had to put a sign outside your door for rooms to be cleaned but this wasn’t on our info pack when checking in so took us 2 days to figure out. Maybe a little more information on the info pack would be useful! "

"We loved staying at Belmar and highly recommend the breakfast buffet. Even though our unit had a kitchen, it was nice to eat at the buffet and we had beautiful views of the beach in the distance. The Belmar is a beautiful resort with several outdoor pools that are not heated and a heated indoor pool and hot tub. We were there at beginning of April and were able to swim in the cold outdoor pools but we were the only ones who could tolerate the cold. We swam in the indoor pool also which was nice. And we used the hot tubs which were nice but not crazy hot. I would guess 90 degrees. The hot tub is indoors and for adults and kids 16 years and older. No younger kids allowed. Our kids were old enough so it worked out well for us because the hot tub wasn't busy. Early April is a shoulder season so the resort was busy but the surrounding areas were quieter and the ocean was cold but people including my kids still swam in the ocean. There is a 5 minute walk down to the beach from the resort. The beach is a public beach with parking so others can drive there. I prefer it that way. And there were no chairs by the beach, not even ones you could rent. But maybe that's because it was not summer yet. We loved Lagos and parking was relatively easy but might be busier in the summer. April is a great time for hiking and we did two of the cliffside hikes and loved them."

"We loved this place! Very professional and helpful staff; clean room and great view; wonderful buffet breakfast with many tasty options; pool was lovely (but cold). Many beautiful walking paths nearby and nice walk into old town. Felt safe in the area. Spectacular experience!!"

"Honestly, the only thing I would change is I wish the gym was open for longer than 7am-7pm. Other than that, I don’t have anything but wonderful things to say. This is a proper 5 star hotel"
