I’m not incredibly picky, but this hotel is just barely ok. I like that it’s accessible to public transport. There is no AC, which is normal at a lot of hotels. The problem is that it’s also too loud to leave the windows open, so it’s incredibly stuffy. There were heat advisories during the time of my stay, so maybe it’s not always so uncomfortable.
The room was clean and the breakfast is good if you get there early enough. I waited until the last hour of breakfast one day and didn’t have much to choose from, but when I went early, it was nice.
On the last night of our stay, the fire alarms went off, which actually took us until we smelled smoke to notice because the street was so loud. We evacuated to the ground floor while a fire team took care of the issue, but there was no announcement or information from the hotel. When they cleared the smoke, we were allowed to go back to our room but didn’t have electricity for a long time. None of this was the hotel’s fault, but everyone was confused and there was no communication happening except among guests. We were all trying to find second languages in common to speak to one another to try and discover what was going on. I got most of my information from French speakers who also spoke Spanish (because they could understand the firefighters). It would have been nice for the hotel to have made an announcement.
I’ve stayed at a lot of hostels and I think I’d just go with one of those next time before booking this hotel again.
