The room is a little dated but otherwise super clean and spacious. Another disappointment is thst the hotel only have shower in the onsen which many guests may like the experience but better if the hotel can consider shower room for people who wants privacy.
Anyway, still I would recommend this hotel.

onsen
room with view on lake Toya
in walking distance to lake and hiking trails
- cigarette smell, especially near the windows
it is a very nice view room but the public bath can be better to add a clock + drinking water + cold water can be full all the time then it will be much better..
Our room was clean and comfortable and had a great view of Lake Toya. There was only a smoking room available to book but it did not smell too strongly of smoke. There is an onsen bath on the basement floor but we didn’t use it. The hotel was advertised as having shared bathrooms but we actually had our own private bathroom in our room, which was great! The location was super convenient- close to the bus station and the lake. I recommend this place!

No showers in room, need to use Onsen to shower then bath. Wasn't an issue for us but know some people would have a problem with this.

Very Underwhelming
The building is clearly very old and it is showing signs of its age. The onsen hot springs are hidden away in the basement and is extremely tiny and not an overall fun place to relax. The included dinner was average but it felt more like I was being served dinner at a friend's house than at a ryokan. You have to lay out your own futon as it's self-service which was a bit odd.
Overall the whole experience was very unexciting and we were happy to move on to the next leg of our trip.
