Breakfast good and freshly cooked. No hot water in bathroom morning or early evening and when it was reported the reason was everyone was using the water at the same time so system couldn’t cope. Had to get up early at 6.30am to guarantee a shower, not acceptable. Staff very friendly.
Wish I'd read reviews before booking. First thing i was greeted with upon arrival was "you have an outstanding balance of...". Hot tap in ensuite didn't work and was mentioned in an ealier review. Ensuite vent blew into the bedroom, and there were a number of cobwebs around the curtains / ceilings, and this was a premium suite. Smell of cooking oil or chips was throughout too. Slept well and breakfast was ok. Breakfast staff had a friendly and personable demeanour.
Stayed for 3 nights, booked in two parts. First night in twin room and then upgraded for second two nights to the secret room. Very over the top, bath in room and thrones😂 with very comfortable bed. Excellent fish supper on first night with less good salmon on another night

Lovely setting but overpriced
The room had no mirror in the ensuite bathroom which was very inconvenient for inserting contact lenses and eyedrops etc
Breakfast room, the food and pleasant staff made up for it but still felt overpriced for the room.
Lovely room, everything clean, lovely biscuits and tea welcome pack, staff friendly and helpful. Evening meals and breakfast delicious. However the room was quite cold, particularly in the morning, would still recommend
We had a lovely, warm reception. Our dog was also welcomed.
The room was pleasant, clean and overlooked the castle.
The only downside, was the disgusting smell to the landing area when going back to our room late evening. Believed to come from the vent from kitchen. This has been reported and we will certainly come back.
Really love this hotel. Can't fault it. The only issue was that it was so hot we struggled to sleep. Couldn't turn the radiator off. We had to leave the window wide open all night which meant we heard all a traffic and passing people into the early hours. The temperature outside was unusually warm for New Year so contributed to the heat.
The hotel was beautiful but wouldn’t stay again the weather was horrendous and we were freezing. Radiators were either on lukewarm or off. Apart from that nothing to complain about.
Keine Empfehlung.
A pleasant stay, friendly & helpful staff, but a couple of niggles. The free WiFi was not available in our room, only in the public areas. This was one of our search criteria so I was disappointed. The sound insulation between our room & the next was not great, not helped by our neighbours getting up between 5am & 6am, talking, watching tv, laughing and sneezing. But on the whole we enjoyed the stay and would go there again.

Convenient for sightseeing in the area - comfortable
One night stay at The Sun Hotel. Cannot say enough about the friendly welcoming staff on reception and in the adjacent pub. Really helpful people who also very understanding when our friends couldn’t make it at the last minute.
Only disappointing element was the breakfast in the morning, very underwhelming. Poached eggs were sloppy, hard and served soggy bread.

Liked: Staff & service
Water pressure was poor so shower was not very warm and very weak.
It was a very tired hotel with a shortage of staff.
The bedroom was clean but very dated, the beds very uncomfortable and the shower kept stopping and starting. The bedroom doors banged and shook the place.
The breakfast was good and the staff who served it were delightful.
The position of the hotel is fantastic and with some TLC could be made a lot more comfortable
The staff were fabulous but the property itself was rather strange. The hotel was not internally connected to its bar and thus you had to walk outside to get to it. The hotel decor also ranged from slightly run down (breakfast/dinning area) to bizarre (the bar with its castle related theme).
location was excellent. Very hospitable staff.
the bed was very creaky and noisy

Beautiful building, needs some maintenance
Awkward check-in when I was told only one twin room, not two, as booked, was available. This was because I had been asked to give a name for one adult in each room and the receptionist had not understood that the two rooms formed one booking, made by me. An awful thing to hear when you've been driving for a day, but the poor guy was clearly overworked running the hotel and the pub. The hot water tap in the bathroom sink turned around instead of the handle, and the water pressure was weak and variable, stopping altogether at times. There was a hole in our interior wall of about 4 x 4 cm. We were surprised that the hotel does not have double glazing for noise reduction, given that it is on the main road and above a pub. Other than that, it is a very handsome building, magnificently situated between Warkworth castle and the river. We ate on the pub terrace in the evening sunshine, and the food was good. Parking is convenient and easy.
Good room with a nice bathroom right next to warkworth castle. Great overnight destination and hotel. Bed could do with changing as ours was not overly comfortable. Apart from that it was very good.
