This was our second time in Mazatlan, and since we enjoyed being in the centro historico last time, we decided to book a central place again. I will start with the down-side first... First of all, our airport shuttle driver had no clue how to get to Villa Serena. His English was minimal, as was my Spanish. Eventually we figured it out. Upon arrival, the street gate was locked and the caretaker (Marie) popped out of her little office just inside the gate, but didn't acknowledge us. She went on for at least several more minutes on the phone, but never once held up an index finger as if to say "moment please". When she finally did let us in, she was mildly friendly (or mildly irritated, depending on how you want to interpret her personality)... throughout our stay, it always seemed that we were irritating her if we asked for an extra towel or roll of toilet paper.
What you need to know is that Villa Serena is NOT a hotel. The Expedia description indicated that there was daily housekeeping. Again, not true. You're pretty much on your own to change your bedding, towels and toilet paper, and you need to ask Marie... that is, if you can find her.
The other drawback - without daily housekeeping - is that the floors (all of them...main living area, bathroom and bedroom) getting very dirty daily. Without a broom or mop, it makes it impossible to keep the apartment clean.
Okay, that was pretty much it for the negatives. On the positive side, Villa Serena is in a fantastic location.
