The owners lovely very helpful people and locals very friendly, lovely rooms self-catering or in bar for food. This motel is in a good area as a base to travel around north Scotland most definitely best 10 day stay for myself, and no hesitation to return to this motel and its beautiful settings 10 out of 10.

Lovely large self contained unit with kitchen. Good bathroom but weak shower. Spotlessly clean. Heating just not adequate for cold conditions and owners response to our request for a solution was disappointing. Parking good but rough gravel meant carrying bags. Very isolated. Bring everything.

The property is in amazing location and the views from the front window are fantastic. You look straight out onto the Loch.

The owners, Craig and Sue, are very friendly and accommodating. Two locals were in the bar watching rugby and visited with us. Told us about the area. Had some good conversation and laughs. Would definitely stay there again!

This property is in a beautiful little spot. Amazing view from the room and all the peaceful relaxing we could ask for. Room was clean and came equipped with everything needed for self catering

In all my travels across numerous countries some poor , some rich I have never encountered such poor levels of service and poor attitude. My 5th hotel on my drive around Scotland. Until this experience I have enjoyed amazing times. They call it a restaurant, more like a menu of bar snacks. Attitude if bar man less than impressive. Not sure they are called to be in hospitality.

I think some of the comments made in your review are made out of spite because I would not agree with you during a discussion in the bar last night - after which you became quite rude and belligerent - something we were not prepared to put up with. Additionally, I wonder which country you have visited makes you think it is acceptable to smear your poop on all over the toilet seat and shower door in your room? Maybe they will welcome you back, but thankfully I doubt we will have to.

Great place to stay
I really enjoyed staying at Altnacealgach and look forward to returning next autumn. The room was bright, airy, sparkling clean and well equipped; the bed was comfortable and there was a large window with fabulous views. The owners are friendly and create a warm atmosphere.

I really enjoyed my stay here and have to say that it exceeded my expectations. As a solo traveller on a bicycle, it’s really hard to find affordable accommodation around here that’s not a hostel. As soon as I turned up, the owners showed me where I could store my bike. I was really happy with the room - fairly simple but everything you need and spotlessly clean. There’s even a handy inventory to show you what’s in the kitchen. Loved the little TV area and the view of the loch is beautiful. You can even swim in it! As you’d expect for a remote location, there’s no phone signal or 4G but you can get on the Wi-Fi network in the bar next door. It was actually quite nice not having phone signal in the room! There’s an information manual in the room which I actually really enjoyed reading - some nice personal touches! You can buy breakfast, lunch and dinner from the pub next door which is also owned by the motel owners. The prices are incredibly reasonable. In fact, it’s probably one of the only places left where a pint costs less than £5. The food is really tasty too.

Beautiful and quiet location on your NC500 trip. The room was large, appeared to have had a recent renovation and it was sparkling clean. There is free parking at the rear of the property. Very friendly staff members graciously answered all of our queries. The bartender stayed with us for an additional 30 minutes even though the restaurant closed at 9 PM. I would advise carrying a bug repellent spray with you because, probably due to the lake, you may anticipate getting bitten by millions of Scottish midge flies when temperatures are higher. Overall, I'd come back and heartily recommend the place.

We had a great stay and lovely hosts. Gorgeous surroundings to the motel, lovely rooms and well equipped for self catering if not dining next door. Host are friendly and had a lovely chat over a pint. Would recommend.

Great location for an en-route stopover or to explore the area. Rooms are a good size and very clean. Not a real issue for us but internet connectivity isn't available in the rooms. However, it is within the Alt Inn right next door. Sue and Craig were great hosts.

Wonderful hosts made for a very pleasant overnight stay. Drink at the bar before a home-cooked meal, just the thing after a long driving day. Spectacular, scenic location and comfortable motel style room was comfortable and quiet. Stay here...you won't regret it!

Spacious room with all facilities needed. Bathroom was clean and the kitchen clean and well equipped. Ideal seating area for watching tv even if the reception was a bit erratic. Super comfy bed .

This motel is very modern, clean, and has pretty much everything we need. The lake view in front of the motel was just amazing! However we would enjoy our stay more if not for those masquitos/bugs in the room. The room was warm but we could not open the window because of these bugs. Between my daughter and I, we probably got 40 masquitos bites😔(wish we had brought mosquito net with us 😂) . Despite this we would stay again if we ever return to this area. We will be better prepared next time !

Oh what a view !! It was the best rental we had while doing the 500 mile loop. Booked it randomly and it turned out great! It is a self catering facility, therefore the spacious room had a small kitchen a fridge and we even noticed a barbecue in the front yard. Breakfast was just perfect and the gentleman at the bar was awesome, voluntarily providing me with a crash course on scotches.

Although the motel is quite isolated and quite basic, the room was clean and well appointed, although not anything fancy. However, you don't travel there for fancy. Dinner and breakfast were both good -- again, not fancy if that is what you are looking for. But if you are looking for a very quiet and remote location, this motel has it all.

This lovely little apartment right on the edge of the loch was so much nicer than I had expected. It was clean and comfortable with easy parking. The surroundings were peaceful and beautiful. Parking was easy just behind the rooms. We arrived fairly late and had already eaten but the food looked good and there was a busy friendly bar. We could have had breakfast but wanted to make an early start as we had lots of driving to do. Would certainly recommend.

We stayed at this hotel for one night while enroute to Orkney. Sue and Craig are a lovely couple who take pride in their establishment. Dinner at the pub was delicious, and we truly enjoyed chatting with the local folks who happily shared the bar with us. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
