Another island trip

Overall this is not what you would expect from 5 star hotel. Especially for the price that we paid we expected a bit more. Food was very good.

The property was very clean and all decor was like knew.The staff were excellent and very helpful. The room was cleaned every day and the furniture was like knew.There was always plenty to eat and would suit all tastes. We had an excellent holiday with no downsides.

The buffet selections were good for breakfast and dinner. Enjoyed the pool area and nice walk along the promenade. However as most guests mentioned the hotel needs updating.

We stayed here for 10 nights and on the whole we enjoyed our stay. The location is fabulous, right on the coast, the gardens and grounds were lovely and well maintained. The rooms were big, and nice balcony and outlook. The cleanliness of the hotel was superb, I’ve never seen such a clean pool area, loved being in the pool! Cleaning of room was great and friendly staff. 2 negatives that have to be stated to give a true reflection of the hotel… the food is definitely sub par, we had the buffet 2 nights and 3 nights in the Al a carte dining. Only one of which was decent. We ate out the last 5 nights. The breakfast is ok, but nothing special. It has to be stated otherwise people may be disappointed with this being branded as a 5 star, the food is probably 3 star at best. The other minor issue was that the beds were relatively soft, however this is more personal preference than anything else. Overall don’t expect a 5 star but we were prepared for it being more 4 star than 5,l star, we did enjoy our stay once we had decided we would have our evening meals out with the hotel.

Great location. We walked the Lido everyday to Praia Formosa and we walked one day to Funchal (60 minutes). We also used the Yellow Hop On Hop Off bus which had 2 stops really close to the hotel. The staff could not be more helpful. Ask for a west facing room. We had a lovely ocean view, but could not see sunset from our balcony. No problem, easily seen from the pool area.

Two times at the same place in July, 2 years in a row. A fantastic experience each time, and that’s a performance. Very stable and experienced crew, nice people who care. Nice rooms, and you should definitely give a try to the front facing suites if you can. The views and the calm are amazing. The outside amenities are to us perfect : very calm and relaxing, great garden with tons of flowers, and with amazing views of the ocean and Cabo Girao. Cabo Girao is a spectacle each morning, evening and even throughout the day. And you can eat of swim with this in front of you. Eating options are OK, good buffet and several restaurants in the place. And the general location if quite perfect, with access to a great neighborhood, calm and secure. One of our best hotel experiences in years.

The hotel is very old fasion. The food in both breakfast and dinner was very dissapointing - not wjat would you expect from a 5 stars hotel. The air conditionin the room was noisy. Check-oit took a lot of time. The staff in the reception was not so kind.
