Cheap flights to Fuerteventura

For most visitors flying to the Canary Island of Fuerteventura its appeal lies in the blue waters, the sun and the dramatic peaks. The island was declared a biosphere reserve in 2009, making it also a paradise for nature lovers.

When to book cheap flights to Fuerteventura

Finding cheap flights to Fuerteventura is not as straightforward as booking during the ‘off season’, as the Canaries are popular all year round. This is due to their location: just off the coast of Africa they promise warm weather in all seasons.

How to find the best deals to Fuerteventura

Since the island is popular all year round, finding cheap flights is helped if you can be flexible on dates and airports.

When booking with Expedia you can explore flights from ‘Nearby Airports’ by using the button beneath the departure location on our search form. Since different airlines fly from different locations, and offer variable costs, this is one way to secure cheaper flights.

And using our ‘Show Flexible Dates’ option, that can be found directly above your search results, reveals cheaper flights on alternate days.

Main airports in Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura Airport (FUE), also known as El Matorral Airport, is located five miles south of the island’s capital, Puerto del Rosario.

It operates flights to and from a number of destinations, of which a number are seasonal only. Although small, the airport boasts a number of duty free shops, cafes and restaurants, and is well equipped to accommodate disabled passengers.

How to get around in Fuerteventura

The best way to get around Fuerteventura is by bus. There are various different routes open to the public, two of which pass directly through the airport.

If you wish to nip around the island during your stay, there is also the option of hiring your own vehicle from one of severa car rental agencies. It is important to be aware, however, that driving is much easier on the eastern coast of the island where there are motorways.

For day trips to the other Canary Islands, make your way to Corralejo, Morro Jable or Puerto del Rosario, where there are ferries available to Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

Things not to miss in Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is more peaceful than Tenerife, and Corralejo Beach is famed for its unspoiled beauty.

It can also be quite windy, attracting many surfers and water sports enthusiasts. If you’re feeling adventurous, Mount Tindaya is well worth a climb, especially if you want exquisite views over Fuerteventura and neighbouring Lanzarote.

In November, the island hosts an annual kite festival, where hundreds of brightly coloured kites blaze against blue skies.

Tips for travelling in Fuerteventura

With the year-round temperature in the Canaries averaging around 25 degrees, one thing you’ll certainly want to bring is sunscreen. A less obvious requirement is a windproof jacket. The location of the islands means it can get a little breezy.

Lunch usually occurs between midday and 4pm, while dinner doesn’t usually start until 9pm at the earliest, and can go on until after midnight – so grab a siesta if you don’t want to be falling asleep over your evening meal!
