New hotel in Exeter, convenient location for stopping over on the way to Cornwall. EV chargers in the car park are operated by Believ, which come with a standing surcharge, so be careful about leaving the car plugged in overnight as it can get expensive. It’s 20p per minute for the 11kw charger and over £1 per minute for the 150kw chargers.
The room was new and felt it. I stayed in a premium room, not too spacious but comfortable enough. The bathroom was brand new and in good condition. The hotel is located in a business park, with no free parking, so you must factor in the mandatory £15 per night charge. There’s no way to avoid this.
No coffee machines or bottled water in the room, but water dispensers and tea or coffee stations on each floor were fine. I booked a family room and asked to add parking and breakfast. Online it showed £64, but the hotel quoted £100 instead. IHG confirmed the hotel manager could adjust it, yet staff hid behind “third-party booking” excuses.
Instead of applying simple discretion and putting the guest first, they asked me to cancel and rebook, risking my reservation, all over what was effectively a small system change. Poor communication and a rigid “computer says no” attitude, not what I expect from IHG. Sales Operations, Operations staff, and FOH did not handle the issue well.
The staff on arrival were pleasant, especially Miah. The bathroom and room were new, and I had a good night’s sleep. There’s no air con, just airflow from window.
