"This place has always been “mysterious” to me as I have crossed tamiami trail many many times. So finally when I needed a place to stay that was near to Rookery Bay, and this one’s rates were the most economic, I jumped at the opportunity to check it out! The first thing I will note is that their “strict check in window” seems legit. The front desk was never manned; staff showed up at or near the check In window. He was very pleasant. "I had not just a great visit but a magical visit to this part western Everglades. My eastern Everglades tour was spent in a high rise chain moderately priced hotel. It was outside the park and every day that I returned to that facility the spell was broken but by the mall atmosphere. In this charming motel I arrived to an adventurous crowd sitting in lawn chairs outside their rooms enjoying the sunset. In the morning charming cafe very reasonably priced and good quality food was next door....

"The pool was closed (during spring break) for renovation. The hotel receives only a couple of guest passes for the neighboring pool but they're very hard to come by. However, the bigger problem was around the beach chairs/umbrellas. A separate company operates these, and there are only a few rows of chairs & umbrellas set up for rent. People apparently can reserve them in advance for extended days, but most of the time they were never used, and the company wouldn't allow anyone else to use them...
