"There were hard points on both sides of the bed that coincided with mattress buttons. We had to avoid these but otherwise slept well. Breakfast was a mixed bag. The Castle Grill was ok but lacked beans, the orange juice and the fruit salad had strange and unwelcome flavours, and having only sandwich bread at the toaster is missing a trick. Artisan breads are on offer at the loca Tesco, so there is no excuse. My breakfast coffee on day 1 was strong and to my taste, but on day 2 it was very weak....

"Lovely staff very helpful few issues on arrival apparently Expedia and the hotel had not communicated properly. We didn't like staying in the Gatehouse room...it was dark, the spare room was quite scary thank goodness we didn't use it. My man was so looking forward to a nice bath and jacuzzi but hey ho...the jacuzzi didn't work. Nice breakfast. Won't stay here again though."

"This stay was a sleepover stop on a journey north. I arrived at 21:00 and left at 07:30. It is part of a motorway service area so I would not stay here for any other reason. It did provide a good night's sleep and the room was comfortable. The receptionist was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast, if taken, would be at the adjoining service centre facilities, not at the hotel. This did not appeal to me and I went without. It was worth the price I paid I would say and I would stop there again."

"We enjoyed the location and charm. However, several basic repairs need to be taken care of and housekeeping is missing details. The bathroom vent in our room was heavily coated in dust. Quality of stay is reflected in the price."

"The room (and possibly the entire hotel) looked to have been renovated recently? No air conditioning in the room and so it was a bit uncomfortable during the night. We only realised there was an electric fan at the back of the cupboard as we were leaving 🙄. The staff were nice and the parking was plentiful. Well located at the Ayr end of the high street and not too far from the beach. The breakfast was very tasty and they offered a good range. Overall we were very happy with our stay."

"The entrance to the reception and immediate surrounding grounds were beautiful and immaculate. The additional buildings were not so nice, big standard harling walls. All staff with the exception of one waitress (who was rude) were all amazingly friendly and helpful. There was a family wedding the weekend after we left so the owners were painting various areas (which did not cause any distress) so I’m not sure what the shared areas were like before that. The food was also fantastic albeit...

"Friendly helpful staff, clean room slightly tired, excellent breakfast with quality sausages and bacon! Friday and Saturday nights can be quite loud outside the hotel being a city centre location."

"What an odd place. Quite nice looking from the outside and the downstairs reception room and the dining room look the part for a traditional Scottish hotel. However from there it’s pretty much downhill all the way. From windows that haven’t been washed in a long time to windows that haven’t seen a lick of paint in decades to a shower without its glass frame and door and too short a shower curtain and stained hall and bedroom carpets, this place needs a revamp and probably needed it 20 years ago....

"Parking can be a bit of a nightmare if arriving during normal hours. The hotel itself meets all expectations of what you get at a budget-friendly, might want to take an extension lead no plugs near the bed only on the opposite wall. For example if you wanted to sit in bed with your phone on charge. The service station itself next to it is very limited to a burger king WH Smith Costa and noodle bar the breakfast bar is open in the morning but did not have this. So any form of healthy eating is...

"Classic double room king bed turned out to be a very small double, with just enough space for 1 person really..So a bit disappointing...Staff were very helpful and food in restaurant was good."
