Top Carlisle Hotel Reviews

Crown and Mitre Hotel

Crown and Mitre Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"It's an old hotel, but its clean, tidy and the staff are great. Rooms vary, some are bigger than others. Location couldn't be any better for the centre of Carlisle. On this occasion we were on the fourth floor which does require some stair climbing (there is one lift, it holds four people and is usually occupied by confused old people), rooms are a little smaller on that floor, although the bathroom was huge. Water pressure wasn't fantastic but was okay for a couple of night stay. Last time I stayed on the third floor and the room was a little bigger and althought the bathroom was smaller, no issues with water pressure. Bar is great, not expensive and the bar food is good quality fresh food (didn't try the restaurant). Parking is free, but is limited - you're probably okay arriving before 5PM weekdays, but weekends is busier - there is an underground pay car park literally 300 yards away, so no big deal if you can't get in."

"Pleasant overnight stay in a small but perfectly adequate for my needs single room. Central location opposite the railway station in a Victorian grade 2 listed building .Plenty of pubs and eating places nearby ,and supermarkets a few minutes' walk .The English breakfast was good though would have liked some fruit yoghurt as one of the options. The overall charge of ยฃ42 for B&B was good value for money. I'd happily stay there again ."

"I stayed for a long weekend and the cleanliness and staff were exceptional. However, the Wi-Fi didnโ€™t reach my room, which was 130, a single room as I was travelling alone. The other somewhat disappointing aspect was the lack of water pressure in the shower."

Arkale Lodge

Arkale Lodge

10/10 Excellent
"I would strongly recommend ringing ahead before arriving for check in as there isn't the usual reception on site and no late check in. And even checking in at 7pm was a slightly nerve wracking procedure that took several nervous minutes of ringing doorbells, Ring Door Camera, texts and two phone calls until I finally managed to speak to the owner, who was off site and arranged for someone(I believe another tenant) to let check in. Eventually it was NOT a problem - but well worth ringing ahead! That said, the hotel was clean with good facilities - TV, tea, coffee, kettle and efficient modern shower. The morning staff were delightful and the full English Breakfast was generous and well prepared. Just over 10 minutes walk from the train station."
