"Turned up to be told the manager was out and wouldn’t be back for half an hour at least, so we couldn’t check in. So had to sit and wait (we were supposed to be getting ready for a wedding). Manager treated us as though we were some sort of nuisance wanting to check in. So after nearly 45 min she arrived and asked for a £200 deposit… this wasn’t mentioned anywhere on the listing. "This is a great hotel. The staff are some of the best hotel staff I’ve met. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was huge so big the tv remote didn’t work from the bed. We had a garden room with a balcony looking over the grounds. We stayed during one of the many heat waves this year so the view was more like Africa than Essex. On that note there was no AC in the room. They’d provided fans and an air cooler already when we arrived and the room had a ceiling fan which kept the room remarkably...

"This quirky stay was right up our street, accommodation was clean and tidy, breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice, the views were beautiful and a relaxing and calm environment. the staff were so accommodating and pleasant with great sense of humour and genuine people. "Hotel ideally situated just off the A12. But there is no road noise that disturbed our sleep. Room was nice and clean well stocked with tea and coffee, soap, shampoo, hairdryer and iron. Breakfast was very good and kept us topped up for most of the day. Although we didn't eat in the hotel, the menu had enough variety and was decently priced. Bar had a decent selection of alcoholic beverages, and not too badly priced. My only complaint would be that the towels in our room were a bit...

"You should not have to pay for parking"

"Lovely old property on the edge of town. Front Desk staff on arrival were OK but not hugely communicative (morning team were much better). Same with the bar staff although the prices were pretty good. The room was old but clean and tidy. And HOT, although we were in a UK heatwave at the time. They do provide a fan which helped a bit. Overall a decent place to stay and would stay again if passing by that way again."

"Just a one night stop on business so no time to investigate in detail but very friendly and helpful staff and a very nice room. Not a big room but nicely furnished and equipped with a kettle, Nespresso coffee machine and a couple of pods, tv, iron and board, etc. comfortable bed. Overall a nice comfortable night’s stay."
