The plaza de la Virgen or the Old Square, is the main meeting point of Vitoria-Gasteiz. It is located between the neighbourhoods of Casco Viejo and the Eixample. It is surrounded by white houses and on the centre square, is located a monument in memory of the Battle of Vitoria (1813), an episode of the War of Independence.

"Really attractive and nicely furnished converted old building. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast was just about perfect. Garai is a lovely village and has two magnificent restaurants within a 10 minute walk, ideal for the tasting menu with accompanying wines. "We’re just sorry we arrived late and had to check out early for wine tastings in the morning. A thoughtful modern renovation of an old stone farmhouse set in a tranquil village overlooking vineyards. Our breakfast of fresh juice and fruits, cheese and a selection of salmon and cured meats was prepared by a very charming local woman.
