18. stayAPT Suites San Antonio-Randolph

Live Oak

"I loved the idea of the suite. We had a small living area a bar a kitchen with two queen beds that were comfortable. The thing is, the tv in the living area didn’t work, there was a great deal of rust on the knob to turn the water on in the tub, the bathroom vent didn’t work, and the floor was not clean. The property was clean and well maintained and the staff was nice. Again I loved the idea but I don’t think I’d stay here again."

Hotel Contessa

10/10 Excellent

"The room was very nice and the staff was very friendly and welcoming"

Wyndham Garden San Antonio Airport

8/10 Good

"It was pleasant. Employees were friendly. No A/C in the lobby so it was warm, they had a temporary unit. For breakfast we went down with 1 hour still left for breakfast and everything was empty. It was obviously busy but staff couldn’t keep up. People were standing around waiting for one of the workers to replenish. When we first checked in, only 1 washcloth, no bath mat for the floor. I did ask the lady in the hallway that was working. She said they were short staffed and that they were out of wash clothes and bath floor mats. She gave me an extra big towel for the floor. She said she would get me more wash clothes but never did."

Hotel Gibbs Downtown Riverwalk

10/10 Excellent

"Was a quick trip but a good stay. We got in late and the man at desk was wonderful and helpful. Interesting vibe - historic property with cool oversized rooms. Mid modern decor some rooms look right over the Alamo. Really convenient Alamo and sites and very walkable to River Walk. Don’t skip breakfast!"

Menger Hotel

8/10 Good

"We are originally from South Texas and had been to the Menger before, we were celebrating a family event and opted to stay at this historic hotel. It is a beautiful facility with lots of antiques, art and lovely old architecture. We had a king bed room, which was very pretty but small and not super comfortable. The bed was old and hard. There was no place to put our luggage. There is a closet in the corner but the mini-fridge was right in front of it. There is a big step up to the tiny bathroom. We were concerned we would at some point forget and break an ankle. The bathroom itself was very cramped. The sink butts up against the shower/bathtub, which makes the shower curtain difficult to use appropriately. The worst part though was the shower, which had weak water pressure and alternated between cold and scalding every few seconds. One night we got back and found a ginormous roach in the bathroom headed for the main part of the room. One time we were taking the elevator up to our room on the third floor when the elevator suddenly dropped us significantly and I strained my shoulder trying to brace myself. Nonetheless, the property is charming and we enjoyed exploring it. One afternoon, we ended up hanging out in a lounge by the pool relaxing. It was a terrific space. The hotel is next to the Alamo and Rivercenter Mall, about two blocks from the Riverwalk. The location is fabulous. Despite the issues, we'd return. But just be aware."
